I've yet to read anyone talk about what really changed the game around. The Flyers spanked the Ducks in the first period. They were all over them. Boudreau said enough of that in between the first and second period, and came out in a 1-2-2 forecheck, and the Flyers started turning the puck over left and right. And in the 3rd period the Flyers couldn't even gain the red line let alone the Ducks blue line. - MJL
I chalk it up to the difference between a good team and a not good team. |

You worry me sometimes... Have you been putting in over 50 hours lately? You seem a little punchy and not nearly as humourous. |

Lack of young talent is not the issue with this team. It needs to remain patient with the young talent they have. - MJL
Lack of assets is the issue of this team? Who can they trade to plug up a weakspot without creating another one? Patience is key, but the flyers arent in a good spot. |

I would feel different about this if we had an aging team. Our youth is in the lineup. If they show they can get it done you can add missing pieces through UFAs.
Unfortunately they aren't there yet and the money we spend on UFAs aren't significant enough to change their course alone. |

It's not even like Anaheim's full of proven vets like Boston, Chicago, LA and Pittsburgh... they're similarly young in a lot of key areas of the roster, but they've just been much more patient with their prospects and they've managed to accumulate AND hang on to a lot more of them than we have.
Just look at the one time Flyers' assets on their team: Etem, Palmieri (scored 2-goals on us), Maroon and Sbisa were all once property of the Flyers or picked with draft selections that we originally owned. |

Flyers have a bunch of players where if they put them out on the trade market, they'd get a lot of phone calls to the GM's office. |

Yes work stinks right now. I'll be kinda off on the boards until after 11/17. Although I will say that tomorrow is my favorite day of the entire year and I have off to celebrate! |

I think you may be overrating Simmonds trade value. - BiggE
Package. Like how Simmonds and Schenn gets you Mike Richards. Simmonds and Laughton should be able to land you a decent top line player. Maybe someone on the last year of a deal. |

Exactly -- we talked about it last night, in the gameday. Here's one of the posts after the end of the second period:
"I don't know that they had less energy...the Ducks, to me, are daring the Flyers defense to make the right plays, consistently.
Schenn looked horrific that period, Grossmann had some brutal turnovers...
Our mobility issues and average-to-below puck skills for the defense kinda showed up that period.
That being said, as you guys have noted before, if the forwards come back a little harder and a little deeper, some of that can be minimized."
We all saw what the problems were, and knew what they were. But some of us feel that dressing better players throughout the lineup helps mitigate that.
We aren't railing on the best players in the lineup for "nonproduction." We recognize that we need more good players -- and that slow defensemen with poor puck skills and two members of a fourth line who can't play don't always qualify as "good players."

I did.
In general terms, I saw one team that knew how to adapt to the game, and one that not only didn't, but also collapsed.
I'm not down on them in a bad way, though. They're young, and it's probably not the right mix of players either. Things will get better in the coming years, but right now they're not good. |

I'm an N7 Special Ops Engineer. I have Shepherd's black leather jacket with the N7 logo and the red stripes on the arms. I also have an N7 tank top, and the bioware green messenger bag which is a "Holographic calibration kit" it's so subtle but I adore it. Add some black jeans and some combat boots and it's a comfortable outfit that Mass Effect lovers will die for but I can walk anywhere in. Which is good cuz I'm the designated driver almost always. Being comfortable and being able to be taken seriously by cops is always a good thing. |

really the only move that really still burns me is moving JVR. I just thought he was the perfect guy for Giroux to run with in the longterm.. building chemistry and growing together. |

29 teams would absolutely be more than interested in all of:
Voracek, Giroux, Schenn (Brayden), Couts, Read, Simmonds, Mason and Gusty
Note: the average age of that group is 24... |

Totally agree.. Those two would look beautiful together. Also, for as much as ppl female dog about JVR not playing in the dirty areas... he is a beast around the net. Guy is a hell of a young player. |

Agreed -- but let's be honest. This is what I've been saying today. Some people -- not everyone, obviously, and maybe not even a lot of people on this board -- but some people couldn't wait to get JVR out of here, because he wasn't tough enough, so on and so forth.
But we aren't as eager to get worse players than JVR out of here. If you're tough enough but can't play or score or pass or skate a lick, for some reason, none of those guys have to ride on the JVR Express out of town.
We just keep right on doing it. |
