So far both Streit and Lecavalier look like very good signings by Holmgren. I don't see how bringing those two in is going to prevent them from improving in the future. - MJL
I loathed the Streit signing.
Both the money and years.

Have to give Hartnell a little time coming off the injury. Not sure what the hell Schenn's issue is, but he hasn't had a good year to this point. I expect that to improve drastically. And Grossmann has been solid for most of the year. - MJL
Agreed -- just talking about mix. The way the defense is currently, Grossmann and Schenn, if Schenn's only going to play 15 minutes a night...having them both doesn't work.
I'd love to keep Grossmann. But I have to be honest and say that, right now, Luke Schenn is someone whose trade value probably isn't what anyone would like it to be. |

You have a lot a patience and faith in Schenn. I'm ready to call the Schenn for JvR a flop. - Dkos
Won't know the true outcome of that deal for a number of years. Why does 11 games this Season wipe away the 48 games last Season when L. Schenn was one of the few bright spots for the team. And played stretches of games where he was excellent?

I still like my suggestion of Grossmann for Diaz and a 3rd rounder. - ob18
Right now, after the way the back end got exposed again last night...I like Grossmann but I'd drive him to the airport. |

Sure, at the TDL, for a 2nd rounder...like I said in the post, I can't see anyone giving up much for him.
As for Meszaros, they've been shopping him for months now. Again, perhaps at the TDL they can wring a 3rd or 4th rounder for him, if he stays healthy. - Jsaquella
There aren't many teams that are looking to make trades at this point in time. The market obviously expands greatly at the trade deadline. I see plenty of interest in Meszaros and Timonen at that point in time. What's wrong with a 2nd round pick for a player that isn't going to come back? Like someone else pointed out earlier. Douglas Murray fetched 2 2nd rounders.

Yes, that's my answer. I don't see any reason not to trust current management.

That's fine and dandy, but signing Grossmann first and then trading for Schenn and losing Carle has really set them back. There was zero reason to rush into re-signing Grossmann and risking the loss of Carle, and trading for Schenn really left them without a puck mover and a good mobile guy.
If they had a handshake deal with Carle, getting it done should have been top priority, given the lack of mobile defensemen on the roster - Jsaquella
Again, we don't have all the information needed to make that call. We truly don't know what was going on behind the scenes with Carle and his agent in the negotiations. It's all just speculation.

I agree. I've said it before, they're realistically one player to heavy on the defensive defenseman side. They need to decide how they're going to go, and who is in the long term plans.

yes, please claim that the 23 year old NHL-proven Dman is a failure. I think most Dmen hit their primes at 26 or 27. |

That's premature. I wouldn't give up on him until a good 5 years has gone by. He is only, what, 23? He was the only bright spot for the Flyers last year. The potential is there. He is constantly changing linemates. He needs to get a solid partner and build chemistry. I still love the trade. |

good call, didn't think of that! - justahockeyguy2
Just for reference. A team acquiring Kimmo Timonen from the Flyers at the trade deadline on March 5th. Will need to have $1,230,769 of Cap space. |

Yeah, we just know the result...an expensive, immobile and subpar defense group, whose best puck mover is on an over 35 deal for $500K less than the solid 27 year old guy they let get away.
Either way, the end result looks bad |

I do to. I know Chief doesn't seem to be a fan, but last season he won my heart. You can't show up game in and out with all those injuries and not win me over. |

I said it before, I think Carle is a better player and he's younger then Streit is. But I'm happy with Streit so far. But I'm also not under any illusions to think that if Carle was still here, the situation would be drastically different then it is now. He's a good player, but not that good. And with what Holmgren was trying to do, if he had succeeded, I think they would have been in a much better shape then they are now defensively.

I like Luke Schenn, but the bittom line is, the Flyers gave up a guy who blossomed & now, there's very few people who would make the same trade just 18 months later |
