I think we should've given Kreuger this season with having Eakins as Associate head coach. Gives a year to balance things out. - ChetManly
I'm not sure we would have gotten him. I think he wanted to take a Head Coach job somewhere. |

I don't even have words. I don't think anyone pegged them to be this bad again. Even my lowered expectations have been beaten. Gretzky is rolling over in his grave and he's not even dead yet. |

A friend of mine went fishing with Lowe this summer and asked him if the oilers were going to be good, Lowes response was "we are a long ways away".
Not trading hemsky, Gagner and yakupov were the biggest mistakes IMO. |

I am surprised too at the Oilers record so far. Obviously missing Gagner for weeks and now Hall as impact players makes a difference but you still have enough talent to have more wins.
Eakins will figure it out and so will the players in terms of team defense and then the offense will come from that.
I am hoping it's soon, as the Oilers are my second favourite team |

There's a decent amount of you Leaf's fans that are also Oiler fans. |

No, two different playing styles. But in terms of production they both score which is kind of what you aim for when drafting or trading. - jaumiller

Goes back to the Gretzky/Messier/Fuhr/Anderson/Kurri era. Always liked the style of play much more than the grind it out New Jersey style of play.
But you have to have enough skill to pull it off, and right now it's just not there yet for the Oilers |

I said many of times in the off-season if these kids don't learn to play two-way hockey we aren't going anywhere. Perfect example of this last night. No amount of physical play or Shea Weber's would've saved us. |

Great post.
I live in Red Deer and typically go to 1-4 games a year and watch every game.
I will not be going to any games this year. Time to stop paying for such a weak product.
I am trying to ween myself off of watching the games on TV but as of yet get sucked in for at least the embarrassing first period.
I am hoping to rid myself of my terrible addiction as it is very mentally unhealthy to cheer for such a terrible team.
Good luck to anyone else trying to kick their habit. |

my 2 cents
u have too many of the same player.
RNH
Hall
Eberle
Yakupov
Gagne
these guys are all highly talented players, who can pass, shoot, score and rack up points. none of them are overly strong along the boards, physically strong infront of the net, or incredible 2 way players.
a bit of a variety pack of players helps fill all roles, so yes, time is needed, but so is a shake up. if you can move a quality forward for a good stay at home D man and a strong winger who can win battles in the corners and or stand infront of the net and make it hell.
goaltending isnt exactly strong, but D.B. isnt that bad cmon..the team needs to play better, but the tending also needs to be more consistent.
id consider moving one of the players i posted above to see if you can get some of your needs. |

It seems like MacT wants to hold onto every player, in fear of what if..what if..
Well, everyone laughed at Burke, criticized him, called him every name in the book when he traded 2 firsts and a second for Kessel..5 years later, he is looking like a genius!! MacT needs to take a chance, trade a pick and a high end prospect to address what he needs now..a goalie..not all first overall picks will come too fruition and become superstars, as we all know..trade yakupov now while value is high, get what you need..you don't need him. - nascarguy
Does it really look like Mac T is hesitating? I do not think has an Untouchable list at all. I really don't . I just dont think he is going to make a bad trade or get fleeced on a deal. Everyone who thinks Yak's value is low right now is probably right, but if you can't see this as little more than a Sophmore Slump ( with a few variables) then you have no idea what his value will be.this is the wrong time to trade him.
Bold move and stupid move are not the same thing.how is he supposed to make a deal when every GM I. The league view MacT and the Oilers as desperate? I know I would try and low ball the Oilers if they called me.

yak looked ok last night - maybe he is not worth moving right now because of that...his value is lower than it should be for his caliber of player.
sophmore slump on a slumping oiler team out the gates. |
