A friend of mine went fishing with Lowe this summer and asked him if the oilers were going to be good, Lowes response was "we are a long ways away".
Not trading hemsky, Gagner and yakupov were the biggest mistakes IMO. - Scooby_Doo
even it it's the truth that 'we're a long ways away from a true contender', fuk lowe.
its year 4 of the rebuild. there's no reason whatsoever we should still be this bad.
teams finish last or get a lottery pick for a couple years in a row all the time, and pull themselves out of it. at least to respectability. even the isles had some modicum of success here and there before nose diving again the next year.
we're much more like the panthers.
there is a systemic problem in our organization that starts with him.
'we are a long ways away". what a douche. we haven't made the playoffs for 7 years. is he trying to give himself a reprieve for 7 more? |

I think that's a bit of revisionist history. After the season Yakupov had last year, there was no real consideration to trade him.
Hindsight is 20/20, not that I think yaks had no future here - Morris
It might be. Sadly those are the 3 players with the weakest talent/trade value ratio at the moment.
The highest has got to be Eberle.Love the player. Can we pull off a block buster? Curious to what his worth is straight up? |

Well we know its not the Coach the oilers have fired MackT Pat Quinn, Tom Renney, Kruger and now have Eakins none of the coaches worked.
That tells me its the players.
You have weak Golatending and Defense decent Offense but lack size and grit upfront.
It's really a simple fix with the Oilers trade for a Goalie and Defensive help.
The issue is Oilers brass doesn't want to pull the deal because they sold the fans on this rebuild. Why Kevin Lowe thought it would be a good idea to draft small forwards and not shore up the Goal-tending situation is beyond me.
If I'm MacT I Trade Eberle. He's small can score but his stock is still high.
Your not going to get anything for Yakupov right now, and Hall I believe can still be a franchise player. - duckyjets

True. I just think he's been playing better this year and shows flashes of brilliance and some compete level, which is severely lacking at the moment. |

Firing Lowe at this poi t doesn't improve this team or reverse any of his decisions. I think Mac T is a smart hockey man.he will figure this out. Lowe has done a nice job with the Oil Kings and Barons. Not sure what else he does, but I don't buy in to the puppet master theory at all.no matter who is president, you do what the owner wants you to do, not what the casual fan, season ticket holder, or HB poster wants. |

I think the #1 pick should have been traded instead of picking him. But you are right, hindsight is 20/20. |

You're preaching to the choir, I was in favour - to varying degrees and much to the annoyance of fellow oiler fans - of trading down or trading out every single year. |

yak looked ok last night - maybe he is not worth moving right now because of that...his value is lower than it should be for his caliber of player.
sophmore slump on a slumping oiler team out the gates. - big_dion
he was instrumental in every Leaf goal! not only -4, but seriously, he was flat footed, watching the play on three of the goals and on his belly for one of them. I play more D and am more responsible on Friday morning skates after a bender the night before! He's brutal. |

Great Blog... as a Leafs fan, I can relate (I will not gloat about how good the Leafs are looking these days). The pain of watching sports and being a fan of a losing team is a lot like an addiction. You know it's not good for you, but you can't stop.
Speaking about addictions, I think you should have stayed with the girl who asked for the cash instead. Pretty sure she would have bought drugs with it. She might have ended up on "Intervention" or something. At least then you would be able to say... "Yeah, I'm an Oilers fan, but at least I dated that Girl who was on Intervention." |
