Talbot has two more years left on his deal. Perhaps with Downie, a pending UFA, Flyers liked cap flexibility moving forward.. - BingoLady
Only a 1.75 mil cap hit. Bad deal IMO...

That can't be true. They don't understand the term cap flexibility. |

Not a bad deal... he's more of a viable top-9 forward than Talbot... a UFA at the end of the year... gonna miss Max, but not his contract. - Tomahawk
...and that's the flip side of that. That's an accurate statement, too. |

Okay!! Hands up.
Who thinks we just traded for the same 19 year old kid we traded away five years ago and that his game hasn't changed in those years? - mayorofangrytown
Not me. Watching him in Tampa and Colorado, it looked to me that he has really improved and is a solid top 6 offensive forward. |

Although I would want to hear the rationale behind the trade, I agree as much as Talbot is a fan favorite, he’s a replaceable role player. Downie, as long as he’s healthy can provide a little bit more offense and is younger. Also, Downie is UFA after this year versus how Talbot has 3 more years on his contract. Add into the fact that Downie is younger…this might be a good trade. |

You should be ecstatic... this means that Couturier's not going to be saddled w/ either Rinaldo and/or Talbot now. |

This is a great deal. Downie is a younger top 6 forward. Max is a 4th liner that hasn't been the same since his broken leg. Downie will provide a little more pop & worst case has an expiring contract. - flyguy12
He's only played 11 games since breaking his leg... |

Downie's going to help the PP, he has a history of being able to keep up with good linemates (Vinny knows him from Tampa), and nobody likes to play against him.
Talbot is the world's most likable guy, but he's not exactly the best hockey player in the world. |

Downie makes $2,650,000 and is a UFA. I hate trading Talbot. |

Yeah, I was gonna say the same. Sure, he may still be volatile from time to time, but he's shown he can play some top 6 minutes and even has a 20-goal season to his name. |

We can plug someone into the PK, but if we don't start scoring more consistently, we'll be out of the playoff picture in 2 weeks. |

Ha! You know damn well I'm ecstatic about one thing: You can insert Steve Downie on any of those three lines, move somebody up or down, put Adam Hall back in as the 4C and not dress Jay Rosehill.
Maxime Talbot was a very good PKer, and he'll be missed in that role.
But Good Lord. This team needs more wingers who might score a freaking goal every once in a while than I need to learn how to post shorter.

$2,650,000 for a real top-9 forward is good. $1,750,000 for 4th-liner is not. |

I'm praying Downie plays with Rinaldo and Rosehill!
The Legion of Dumb - PLindbergh31
that is excellent, but my 1st impression is that this is a good trade for us. downie is excellent along the boards and has a pretty good scoring touch...balances out the forwards. hall can do a lot of what max did. |
