While this is your opinion, I do not agree.
Talbot has been a shell of his former self. He has not brought much to the team this season. Not sure if the broken leg has hampered him, if overall, injuries have caught up to him; or if this is a temporary issue or not. But the fact remains, that he has been poor this season.
The Flyers have just as good of PK option sitting in the pressbox in Adam Hall. He's a better suited to play the 4C spot and center a PK line.
Downie is a much more gifted offensive player than Talbot. Yes, he often crosses the line with hits and reactions. But he'll be a great fit if he's playing with Giroux and Vinny on the top line. He has played top line and tough minutes everywhere he's gone - and has done well with it.
On top of that, the Flyers get an up-close, 6 month job interview with Downie to see if they want to sign him to an extension.
Great trade for the Flyers. - bradleyc4

You know, he's not playing like he did 2 seasons ago. Clearly that offensive output was an anomaly. He's making too much money for what he's producing. He hasn't been the same since his injury he suffered before this season. His leadership skills obviously aren't enough. Therefore, trading him for a player who has more offensive production is not a bad thing.
Sound familiar to anyone? - jmatchett383
Yeah, comparing Talbot to Giroux is taking your dislike for this trade wayyyy off the rails. |

I'm giving you the finger right now. - PhillySportsGuy
I probably deserved that.
If it makes you feel any better, the Pens will probably start to get bored with their regular season success after accumulating about 110 points in the regular season and start their annual fall into bad habits by mid March, just in time for another playoff disaster highlighted by the series losing goal going in via an ill advised Kris Letang drop pass that squirts thru MAF's legs.
Your pain is immediate, mine is likely to just be delayed. |

I also noticed the soda I got at Consol was kind of flat last night. So much to fix, and only 70 games to go! - Emperor Filonius
Dude, you should request one of those bottom up beer dispensers. They were a huge hit here. I think we won an extra 10 games that season. |

if it is the Blues, wonder if Stewart is part of the package. He's been somewhat on the outs there. Would have to be Stewart + D for ? - wilsonecho91
OOOOOOOOOOOOOO... a line with Simmer/Stewart could be pretty nice |

If we trade Giroux I guarantee he puts up 90 plus pts a season and wins a stanley cup as the top line center. - GOA88
Whoa whoa whoa...you just assumed I was talking about Giroux? How so? It's not like his line the last 2 years actually mirrors Talbot's is it? I was clearly talking about Talbot. How could you make that mistake? |

No clear spot for Downie yet. Says Homer: "A lot of it will be trial and error."
not saying i don't like the trade, but there's your plan. this should be the tag line for the season: 2013-14 Philadelphia Flyers: Trial and Error! - hammarby31
should be the Homer's tagline for his entire tenure. |

I don't think Talbot has been anything more than "solid" in any aspect of his game this season.
The Flyers, offensively, have not been doing the dirty work to get the garbage goals they need. Steve Downie will bring that. Hopefully, it's infectious. - bradleyc4

Bottom line, we will score a little more.
And our PK will give up a lot more.
That's my main issue. |

Steve Downie
09 - 10 = average 3 PIM per game, 72 games
10 - 11 = average 2.6 PIM per game, 57 games
11 - 12 = average 2.2 PIM per game, 55 games
"running around take wild penalties" seems a little sensationalist. |

You said Giroux doesnt produce like he used to. Last season after a rough start he was over a point per game, lead the league in faceoff wins and played the top PK AND PP units, both 5th in the league. He has a slump right now. Give the guy a break. It isnt like he is getting any help on his line. |

Then clearly we should trade them all for pending UFAs with higher cap hits who have better offesive production. |
