Just an FYI Downie has 14 goals in his last 77 games. - PLindbergh31
how many assists?
EDIT: Because Im pretty sure Joe Thornton is probably close to that in goals as well..not comparing the two though.. just saying goals dont paint a whole picture..
14 goals and 32 assists.. 12 assists...

28. While the Flyers are in desperate need for offense, they should have tried to acquire someone with a little more discipline. Flyers are the most penalized team in the NHL, and business is about to pick up.
So being they will be shorthanded more often now, they just traded one of their top PK guys. So this trade kind of defeats the purpose. |

So maybe thats why they moved Talbot.. because they dont wanna pay Talbot next year for a role that they have younger guys ready to step into. - jak521

He is a the least a bonefide top 9 player.. who seems to get a lot of top line time. Hoepfully he does well with G and VL... |

what if this is just a red herring and they are going to package Downie in another deal?
Alright, I have to go to a meeting and try to be serious. |

I like the trade ... though Downie seems too much of a Rinaldo for me. Is there really a need for 2 of these kind of players?
trade Rinaldo and bring back McGinn.

Have to get used to that mindset. For most fans it's all about offense and goals. It's how players are looked at. It's how prospective line combos are put together. And if players are worth their salaries. All based on goals and offense, for forwards. The other side of the game doesn't exist for some. |

Maybe its not Downie they are going to move, but another guy..
I wouldnt be totally blown away if one of the other younger forwards were moved... seems like a total Homer move. |

He's an upgrade to Talbot offensively, not questioning that. Calling a guy with one 40+ point season a bonafide top 9 player is somewhat of a stretch. |

There really isnt any similarity between Downie and Rinaldo. The only thing you can even get close to is that they both tend to get out of control at times. |

Honestly, I'm kinda shocked it wasn't more of a blockbuster panic move, a la B. Schenn for some guy. |

I wouldn't be surprised either. An aspect of the trade that hasn't been mentioned is it could give them the ability to trade a forward for a defenseman. Also adds to tagging space. Although that's not a big issue right now. |

Hypothetically speaking, say Downie doesn't play particularly well and he's not re-signed, Flyers miss the playoffs. Basically they just gave a cost controlled solid role player away for nothing. Right? |
