I give Homer all the credit in the world. If Pronger is still healthy, this is a completely different team. If he lands any of Weber, Suter or Parise, this is a completely different team. He tried to patch the holes, it just hasn't worked out, partly because bodies weren't available after those failed attempts.

That being said, every GM runs his course and comes to the end. Unless this season turns around, Homer's is probably coming up.

Honestly, only a few have not liked the trade. I think they made a good deal, based on they got the best player out of the deal. I think it's going to help them in some ways, and hurt them in others. We have to let it play out to see how it changes the dynamic of the team. Trading a role player for a more talented younger player, isn't a bad move. But let's not pretend that there aren't any concerns about the deal.

i don't know - but if it was for a solid young defensemen or a speedy sniper I wouldn't think twice about trading them. They are both over-rated and the flyers have other centers like G, Vinny, Laughton, and Hall that can hold their own. I like both players but I'm tired of seeing then under-perform expectations night in and night out. Truly though if the flyers do keep them for the long haul I hope they pan out cause it sounds like subban and weber could have been had in the past if homer was willing to part with one or both.

I can give you plenty of questionable ones. The trade they made this afternoon wasn't one of them. The risk-reward ratio makes it a no brainer. It gets them a better player, doesn't cost them any youth or a player that is hard to replace, and it doesn't contain any long term repercussions in and of itself.

You're already running around guaranteeing a $3mm per year extension...that doesn't exist yet, and Downie may well prove to be worth it.

And maybe the Varlamov thing made them realize just how young they really are -- their captain is 20 years old.

Talbot's a good veteran for them, not old, and can help them over the course of a long season where they are going to have some rougher times than they have now -- they don't talk about it much, but Ryan O'Reilly's year of being unable to be traded is going to be up after that offer-sheet match from last year. There's no guarantee that they're going to pay that salary when he's up -- but moving Downie and locking in Talbot's salary gives them a bit more room to do that, if that's what they want to do.

Cooter is and will be a very fine 3rd line center for years to come. I'm cool with that, I have no more expectations.

I do not trust B Schenn. I think he can be put on a path to be a D Brown type player on the wing but I'm not sure. He's at least staying on his skates a little more. It always seems like hes laboring out there on the ice and I think to myself my god he looks like this at 22. Eh bottom line is I don't have that faith in B Schenn like I do in Cooter to fill their roles

That's fine. I just feel you're being unreasonable in your take on the trade. I have no hard feelings, just trying to kind of get you off the ledge, so to speak, and to keep the feathers from getting ruffled.

Re-read the posts again bud. I could give a rats ass about Talbot, and said he was trending down since his first year here.

The point being it would have been smarter to trade him at the deadline when teams are more desperate. That and make a run at Downie if you really when him when he hits UFA status in the summer. That, and paying Steve 3+million/year is a wonderful idea.

I hope they both develop - and have more faith in Couts than B Schenn at this point - but if a trade that made sense and could benefit the team immediately were to be available, I'd pull the trigger. And I'd trade them for Weber in a heartbeat, especially since that all but guarantees Laughton stays with the Flyers next season, and I want to see that kid in action.

No ruffled feathers really in regards to that trade. It is what it is, and something I have somewhat come to expect from this team.

I see it as a dumb short-sighted move, that will eventually lead to the overpayment of a guy who is chronically undisciplined, average at best in his own zone and injury prone.

Don't really think that's what the Flyers need to be spending their money on. At the end of the day it ends there. (regarding the trade)
