hmph. And everyone was trying to crucify me the other day for saying the kidnapping charge sounds like it will be dropped and it won't be as bad as it seems. Police release reports that said they interviewed someone who helped her with makeup and saw her chest and saw no bruising.

Well, where is that law student, that habs fans, and others now?

Sounds like to me they broke up, and she's trying to put the screws on him.

Good morning.

Still very early to pretend anything at this point. Come back when the facts are out, then we'll decide how many stickers you'll get.

Agreed. I'm not trying to tell you he is guilty, I'm telling you what I know from studying it in school. With the victim speaking Russian this could quite honestly be a big missunderstanding.

Indeed. Right now the whole thing is more bizarre than tragic. And that conspiracy thing just adds to the weirdness.

For those trying to match Downie and Talbot straight up as an equal trade, I think you're missing a key piece.

I believe Downie is paid about two and a half million? UFA at years end.
Talbot is under two million a season and under contract for another year.

At first I didn't like it, but after seeing the Flyers reaction, it's like someone removed their heart and exchanged it with a red bull. The Avs are off to a great start but let's not kid ourselves, that Defense is still suspect and we just can't afford to be killing 5 penalties a night.

I was almost curious about too, how much of the statement is credible since its been translated from Russian through the Laywers Lithuanian Fiancee, which perhaps Russian isnt even her first language. And some of the russian hockey reports have said already that what has been interpeted was incorrect, such as he was having fun doing it.

I read a good post on TSN regarding this. This isnt a trade you look at player for player. This is a trade that you look at the team before and afterwards of who is better off overall

Just a side history lesson: Lithuania was one of the Soviet republics, and all of them had to learn Russian until 1990. Suffice it to say, the Lithuanian fiancee is more than likely she's fluent in Russian.

Though this is the first time I'm hearing a rumor about bruise make-up.

I've also heard that the lawyer looks sleazy and mob-affiliated. Any pictures?

He does, the initial Denver news clip had an interview with him, big fat guy with suspenders and greased back hair, looked like he could sell me a used Toyoto or something.

Im aware of the Lithuanian Russian proximity, but what I mean is shes the lawyers fiancee, dont you hire a certified translator for this sort of thing so there are no transltation discrepncies in the statements?

Well that's usually the case. It's always better to get a neutral translator. But as I understood it, the lawyer's fiancee was her immediate contact following the "incident" and she may well be the closest Russian-speaking person she'd be able to reach.

Talbot will definitely help on your PK.
I don't think he will be a great fit with McKinnon and Mtchell as the third line wing but you never know. His first season in Philly he played 3rd line wing with Couturier and they had some offensive chemistry together and Max scored 19. Last season and this year so far Talbot hasn't shown the same finishing ability.

Ideally he is the perfect veteran 4th liner on a playoff team, and can be relied on defensively in close games. He is a warrior and will do everything to win.
I am hopeful it is a trade that helps both teams. You guys have enough offense and won't need to rely on Talbot to score goals.

Talbot will play with MacKinnon and McGinn to start. But once McLeod is back from suspension and hopeuflly McGinns knee isnt bothering him anymore, I could see him slide down to the 4th wtih McLeod and Bordeleau.

But as Roy was saying in his Presser, with those guys gone and hurt, he was starting to worry about the PKers being worn down with an increased schedule load coming up and with the amount of bad penalities we were taking, the PK unit was giogn to eventually break down.

I have accepted this move and hope it works out, will miss Downie buzzing around though

I remember when the Flyers signed Max as an UFa. Boomer Gordon on NHL xm radio was highly critical of the deal saying Homlgren paid way too much, 1.75/yr for essentially a 4th line grinder. Then Talbot scored 19 goals that season, made Boomer look bad, ha.
He can move up and down the lineup and play center. His face off percentage is just so so. But I think playoff time he will shine on a shutdown 4th line that your coach won't be afraid to play in tight games. And the PK obviously.

Glad to see the Aves winning.
I spent 7 yrs in Colorado, my son was born in Denver and considers the Aves his favorite team.

I'm from Philly originally and will always be a Flyers fan even when they are lousy.

I'm surprised the court hasn't appointed someone. If it goes to trial I'm sure they will. The defense will use the translators relationship to the victim as a conflict of interest and will most Likly move to have the court appoint someone. Things get (frank)ing complicated when you through a translator into the mix. Prosecutor should have fun with this one

The idea that any domestic violence is always the fault of the victim is one you may choose to ascribe to, but please keep speculation and victim blaming to your other posting on misogynistic troll sites.

The Flyers have been rumored to be in hot talks with the Avs since well before Varlamov's arrest.

Dainius Zubrus, an even older Lithuanian, does not speak Russian. 1990 was 23 years ago. You can be 30 and not have any Russian.

I'm sure it will be in the alleged victim's best interests to have a certified translator at some point. And it is certainly not in her interest for anything beyond the official statements (some of which appear to be related to other prior incidents) to be floating around.

And before anyone goes postal, no one has been banned over this, but some posts have been deleted to keep threads on a hockey track.

I think the Avs have enough to deal with in the circumstances that there may be some hockey-related discussion available.

I'm sorry, but no one said anything mysogynistic apart from one person saying "She's not even that hot." I'm tired of this word being thrown around all over the place. Just because people might think she might be lying, doesn't mean they are being discriminatory towards woman, lying isn't exclusive to a gender. It has to do with her story being a little more egregious with each telling that they think she might be lying, not because she's a woman. You are right though that we shouldn't be speculating on a possible victim or on the case at all.

Back to hockey, Varlamov is starting tonight. Really surprised he will be starting on the road.

The bail was "only" set at $5,000? That tells me that they're not certain that the charges will stick, or at the very least they are something that Varlamov will be able to plea out of.

I don't really get that. On the road, it just draws a lot of negative attention and if he doesn't perform well it's going to really come back under fire.

I knew he wouldn't miss much time but I would have thought, start Giggy so the fans have nothing to go mental about in Dallas and let Varly play at home where there is a good chance the fans stand behind him.
