Just took another look at Grossmann's deal. Yeah, I could see teams hesitating. But at the deadline I think a team could definitely be interested.
I'm not sure how anyone can defend Hartnell much longer. He is completely useless in the offensive zone. Creates nothing. Skates to the slot and waits for passes. This team badly needs wingers that can drive to the net and create their own plays and he's so far from that at this point. You see it in flashes from Jake but thats it. Vinny if hes on the wing too. But I really don't know what happened to Hartnell but he looks like he's suffering from some sort of chronic injury or he doesn't posses the drive he once did. - hereticpride
It's like he signed the new deal, knew he was set and stopped doing most of the things that got him the deal in the first place.
He can't be effective unless he's stirring the pot and getting his nose dirty.
I was thinking about what I'd want from Dallas for Luke Schenn that they might be willing to trade...not a ton on the roster that stokes my fires, to be honest.
I doubt they're willing to move Seguin, Nichushkin or others, even if you offer a lot more than Luke Schenn. |

If Grossmann had a year less and a cap hit around $2mm, he'd be attractive trade bait. As it is, he's bad with the puck and injury prone.
I defended Hartnell, early in his 37 goal season, but since then, he's done little to resemble that guy. He doesn't venture into the dirty areas enough, doesn't play with as much snarl, and obviously doesn't score anywhere near as much. - Jsaquella
I hate to say it because I really didn't think he was "that guy," but it appears that the NMC has made him soft.
He plays like a guy who knows he's going to be in the lineup, no matter what he does, and isn't going to be traded anywhere he doesn't want to go.
I hate to say that. But that's how he's looked for the last season-plus -- how else do you come in from the lockout in admittedly poor shape?

Agreed. Nishuskin is all I'd really have interest in and I've got to believe he is untouchable.
I'd take their first but not until the draft. They probably end up in the lottery this year but you don't want to risk trading L Schenn for a pick in the late 20's.
Would you do LSchenn for Pulock? Maybe a little more coming back from the Isles. |

How bout Goligoski? Haven't watched him in awhile. Both players are struggling but he can move the puck. Might make for a good trade although he has a bad contract - Just5
Yeah -- see, I can't tell if the Flyers think they can "fix" guys on defense -- it so rarely happens that defensemen just get better under them (mainly because they usually don't develop them at all, but trade or sign them).
Goligoski strikes me as a guy who knows he got traded for James Neal and Matt Niskanen, and he knows everybody else knows it, and he just might need to get out of there...but at the same time, anybody who gets him out of there has to fix the guy.
Why the Flyers have never offered Larry Robinson a billion dollars to work with their defensemen is beyond me -- he's always worked in the league, has been willing to go to various teams, doesn't really want to be a head coach, just likes working with defensemen -- and they get better under him. Damn. Somebody like him could really help us.

L Schenn is a bust at this point in his career. I would take any first round pick for him. |

They have a lot of guys I have interest in, just can't see them agreeing to trade them unless you send more than Luke.
Seguin, Benn, Nichushkin...I'd take any of them. Doubt that Dallas would move any of them. maybe they could get prospect defenseman Joe Morrow.
I like Pulock a lot...don;t think they Flyers do...judging from "Flight Plan" Pulock was around 20 on their draft board |

See, I don't think he's a bust -- he's played well in enough stretches of his career where he has value.
But I was saying yesterday...he looks like one of those guys who needs consistent technical work and coaching to minimize his limitations. He's not like Grossmann or even Gill, who know exactly how to play the roles they have and maximize their abilities in doing it.
Schenn...he just hasn't figured out how to be the player that he is and I think it's because he doesn't really know how to play the role that he is best suited to play.
He was in the NHL at 18 -- and that's not always a good thing. Usually, it's a bad thing, for all but the best players. To me, this player clearly needed at least two or three years of development in junior and the AHL.
To me, he looks like a player who was rushed into the NHL. |

No, he's not a bust, not yet...that said he's got to start getting consistency to his game. It's really bi-polar for Schenn, and has been for awhile. |

He's close enough to one. I maintain that the type of game he brings is available every summer on the free agent market. A first round pick is nothing to sneeze at, and we all know what the Flyers can do with a first rounder. I don't think they can get a first for him. |

He's definitely a guy who, if he doesn't get this stuff worked out...he's not a guy who skates well enough to where he's going to get a million chances to figure stuff out.
He's got to learn how to make the safe, consistent play every single time. He's got to learn how to recognize every single thing that's happening. Hal Gill on Saturday -- yeah, he's slow. And yeah, he's played forever. But one thing you could tell is that he knew what was going on out there, even if he couldn't get there to do anything about it.
Schenn's got to develop that kind of awareness.

Wasn't Mike McCarron pretty high on their board? 225lb 6'5 RW with skill. Kid could be a monster. I wonder if MTL would have any interest in moving him.
I'm guessing the Flyers are looking for more immediate help at this point though. |

I wouldn't call him a bust per se. But when you factor in how high he was drafted, he definitely has not lived up to expectations. He is still young for sure, but he has also had 5 seasons plus in the league.
As was stated earlier, I'm not sure he knows what kind of defenseman he should be.

At this point, maybe I shouldn't...but yeah, I kinda still do.
I mean, seriously. I just can't believe anything other than Homer took the bullet for Snider for Bryzgalov. There's no way Homer keeps his job after that debacle, missing the playoffs and buying that guy out, if that didn't come from above.
Everything that's gone wrong, as far as the vibe on this team, stems from that and the fact that Richards and Carter weren't mature enough to lead this team. Now, we can certainly blame Homer for giving them those huge deals, and, again, maybe we should.
But up until then, it was all good. A Stanley Cup final, a conference final, 100-point seasons...
I think he's earned one more opportunity to fix this thing. Maybe I shouldn't feel that way. But this team was changed to get Bryzgalov in here, and I just don't think that's on Homer. Everything that's gone sour since then...a lot of it stems from that and Pronger getting hurt, and I don't think he's responsible for the one and couldn't control the other.

I'm starting to worry Homer won't make the moves he needs to make. Homer not making moves? I know, im crazy. But because once he moves BSchenn, Simmonds or Coots the book will be written that he traded Richards and Carter for a bunch of busts. That's not how I look at it but I do worry about that.
I think he's been a good GM but I do wonder if the past will fog his clarity for the best for the future of the team. |

Ha! If I do, then Homer better be careful, because he only has this season to make this thing look like it's getting better. Just because he maybe had to trade Richards and Carter doesn't mean that you shouldn't get players back to help you win again, you know?
JVR for Schenn...that's on Homer. But at the same time, Steve Mason for Michael Leighton and a 2015 pick is also on Homer.
There's lot of stuff like that, good and bad. |

I do kinda wonder if he's a little gun-shy on those particular players...I mean, the guy is human. Yeah, we all want to believe that it shouldn't matter, but holy hell, you know it burns a little that Carter was able to mope his way out of Columbus, get to LA...and those bastards win the Cup as a freaking 8-seed.
He wouldn't be human if that didn't burn a little, even though those circumstances were bizarre.
