PAUL HOLMGREN should write a book, entitled,
How To DisMantle a Stanley Cup Finalist In Three Years
PLEASE Mr. Meltzer write something exposing this robot ex-goon turned general manager, handpick by Big Ed, to join his all boys club of ex-flyers.
You Don't need hindsight to see the GRIEVOUS errors Holmgren's made with this team.
How much deeper must this team fall, before Holmgren's cut loose back into the wild.
I mean, what's his next move, trade Giroux for Mark Fraser, who knows maybe Mark has a younger brother Paul can find that sucks too. Philly deserves better...HEXTALL............. |

Yeah, because there's no way that Ron Hextall would do whatever Snider tells him to do. |

That young man is going to make somebody on the NHL roster expendable who maybe thought they weren't. |

one good think about him in the OHL is that he'll build confidence if he was on the flyers this year i think he'd get destroyed |

I know he's older than a decent amount of the players he's playing against and that he's too advanced for the league, but I do believe that he's tapping into potential that maybe, just maybe, he didn't even know he had.
It's one thing to go back to the OHL and be the best player. But he's pretty much terrorizing that league, and I do think that matters.
Please, Hockey Gods. Let it matter.

L Schenn is a bust at this point in his career. I would take any first round pick for him. - Just5
He's 24. A lot of young defensemen are just beginning to play regularly in the NHL at that point. Why are you so sure he's done developing and that last year's progress was the mirage and this is the genuine top you can expect? |

Funny. That's the first time I've heard that here. And not that I don't love Hexy, but…
Also, being asst GM to Lombardi doesn't mean he's guaranteed to become Lombardi when he becomes a GM. |

He has a good shot at becoming it here, I'd likely go with Paul Fenton (Nashville) |

I'm sure he'll be next GM. I'm not sure he'll be able to overcome the Snider influence. Like him. Like his attitude about front office work (which I'm sorry I never wrote up, seems late to do now, though). Just worn down by Ed. |

I do kinda wonder if he's a little gun-shy on those particular players...I mean, the guy is human. Yeah, we all want to believe that it shouldn't matter, but holy hell, you know it burns a little that Carter was able to mope his way out of Columbus, get to LA...and those bastards win the Cup as a freaking 8-seed.
He wouldn't be human if that didn't burn a little, even though those circumstances were bizarre. - AllInForFlyers
I don't think he's gunshy at all. But I don't think he wants to make cents on the dollar moves for good players because other GMs see him as desperate. This is not a time the Flyers can deal from a position of strength.
I've said before if they don't think the move will be a reasonable return, they should wait for the trade deadline to get more value for the older guys they don't want back, then make strategic moves after the draft (both trades and signings). |

My worry, as somebody said on the Twitter, is that bad value trades are starting to become the norm for the Flyers... |

What are we waiting for him to develop into? Adam McQuaid? Sean O'Donnell?
His game is out there on the free agent market every summer, go sign that guy, give me a good pick(s) for him its at all possible. |

I think with all the player movement that has happened in the past three seasons, I would implore Holmgren/Hextall not to do anything drastic. Let these guys get out of this hole themselves, not dig it deeper by giving up on them.
I mean seriously, 2012 was an aberration it seems. What did people honestly expect to happen once you give up two leading scorers who in their prime for younger players, including a nineteen-year-old that came out of a draft right away?
Of course this team was going downhill, but they should be climbing back up the mountain pretty soon. |
