I've never felt like more of an outsider for not being a nerd.

We should make a thread for us jocks

edit: BL's post on that last page of that thread pretty much sums it up for us

- Nucker101

i like when they forget what thread they're in and talk about normal things though.

What would you do if you were the Raps GM? Besides trade DD? Sign Lowry and/or Ibaka?
- Nucker101

I really don't know. It's so hard to know because I don't have any idea how ownership feels about paying the tax. In a world without restraints, you bring everyone back. I just don't see how it's possible to bring back Ibaka, Lowry and Pat Pat when you aren't a true title contender. That doesn't even include Tucker who I think is pretty good too.

They signed their death warrant when they gave DDR the max. I honestly don't even think there'd be a huge dropoff without him and that doesn't even take into account what they could have replaced him with.

If I were advising the team, I'd probably encourage them to just keep the thing together. This group won't ever win a championship or even ECF, but they've given the city a consistently good team. That poop does matter and may help them in recruiting later on. Also gives them a chance to establish a true "greatest Raptors of all time list" with guys who are fan favorites (not Vince).

Also, if they want to clear salary without moving DDR, I would look to re-sign Ibaka and move JV.

The only real alternative would be to tear it down and I don't think that's the best course of action.

Depressing, but I agree. I think Masai will try to bring back both Lowry/Ibaka and Tucker. If he brings back those guys and Casey again, I can see interest going down. At least one significant change has to be made.

I could see Casey being canned. I know you don't like him, but I don't see them getting that much better with a new coach.

He only encourages DD's iso /long 2 style of play and his defensive scheme is flawed in today's game. It's not just LeBron. Even the Bucks were exposing the defense and getting a lot of open looks from 3.

Plus his rotations are whack and I really don't think Lowry likes him at all, I could see even see Lowry walking away from the extra money if Casey is back.

I just don't see a coach being able to fix DeMar. The things he's best at are the least efficient things in the game today.

Despite his problems, the Raps still finished with the 6th best offensive rating in the league, so it's hard to complain too much about it.

I think a different coach could get more out of them, but the coach would need to be a good coach. I don't think Casey is bad enough that simply going from him to an average NBA coach is going to make a huge difference.

I don't think it's all doom and gloom though. Masai has done a pretty good job of accumulating assets. Everyone in the league loves Powell and guys like Poetl are also intriguing. Maybe you cobble together some pieces along with DeRozan for another star at a different position.

Crims, I know you don't like Spike, but after every Bill Simmons Celtics tweet, he says something about Brad Stevens coaching for his job and a bunch of angry Celtic fans respond to him. It really is great.
