I do everything I can to make sure everyone on my team has the best opportunity to do a good job. If they fail when I set the deck in their favor then we've got a problem. But if I put them in a crap situation and they struggle? I don't roast their chestnuts the same way either... - FlyersGrace

Ugh. Getting tired of arguing hypotheticals. You have to bring players along. Last year half the defensive core was hurt and you had Oliver, Gus, Alt and Konan playing. The team wasn't great, and they DIDNT fall to pieces. Even if they had a bad strech, they would be helped through it with a coaching staff, and with bad times come good times to raise their confidence. I'm tired of this Protect everything mentality everyone in America has. EVeryone gets a ribbon.... STOP THE BABYING! In 3-4 seasons when they are NHL players and your in the NHL Playoffs don't you want to know if they can handle adversity or if the collapse under it? - youarewrong
Mark Alt has 16 games of professional hockey experience. Lauridsen is a sixth round pick that was seen 12 months ago as a career AHLer. Gustafsson has played unevenly this year. Matt Konan is a former undrafted free agent who has 8 points and is a -13 in 56 AHL games.
I'm fine with playing Gustafsson this season, as I have stated before in this very thread. I'm not ok with throwing guys like Alt and Konan into the ocean to sink or swim when the team is in such disarray. |

Agree with both points...the problem is that we don't have anyone to fall back on to provide that shelter in our crap situation... |

I said that to bo (via Twitter) at the game Friday night when she complained about the ugly dude taking off his shirt in front of her. When she balked, I told her I'd trade her a pic of 9" plumber's crack girl. There was no response. |

Um no. It's a nice grey pant/jacket combo with a black tank top underneath which sits a bit lower than I would normally wear...

I'm more than a little concerned about Couturier's future when he has had to play in a losing heartless locker room for parts of 2 seasons now. |

Ok, I can work with that... I guess my point is, can alt and Oliver skate and pass worse than the guys who are allowed to suit up now? if the answer is maybe, then you have to try it...Sit Kimmo, Sit Mezy...Gus in Full time, sink or swim for him...oliver and Alt, protet them as much as you can, but hell, can you lose more games?
What about the poor feelings of the vets who are collecting those massive paychecks to under achieve...i would rather have two guys trying to earn that pay check vice taking it and not really having ths skills to compete anymore... |

There's nobody that's that much better than Schenn or Gustafsson right now - Jsaquella
I agree - there isn't. But I don't think Gus and LSchenn are sitting because their physical skills have dropped off. They're sitting because of mental mistakes. That's the part I think some on here overlook.
Berube didn't pay Gill because he thinks he's a more skilled than Schenn or Gus. He did it (as Bill rightly points out) because Gill has "been there, done that" is less likely to make a mental mistake than they are. Should he just let them play through the cavalcade of mental errors? Maybe. But when so many of your d-men are making so many mental mistakes, it's hard to blame the coach for putting a guy in the lineup who will make good decisions, even if he his physical talents don't measure up to some of his peers.
At some point, Gus and LSchenn have to stop making the same mistakes over and over and over again. I don't think it's such a bad idea to let them watch a few games from the press box now and again if they don't show improvement when playing.
Also, I think it's too soon to be actively looking to move LSchenn. If someone makes me an offer that's too good to be true, I'd take it. But I would not be shopping him now. For one, his value is possibly at an all-time low right now. And two, I still think he can regain his form (and confidence) of last year. He's still below the age where I think you could rightly say "this is what he is, and he won't ever be better." If he's still a mess at the TDL, then see what you can get for him at a time when teams tend to overpay.

I missed the Devil's game and they won. I'm beginning to wonder if I should stop watching to give them some hope...
I assume that there is no update on Downie or Vinny yet?
The fiancee doesn't want Simmonds to go but I'd be shopping Simmonds and Hartnell to teams who need some grit... And yes I know Hartnell has a NTC - I'd have to check to see if Simmonds does.
I'm a sucker for the D-men and I have to agree that Kimmo has been hurting us. Say what you will I still like Schenn and haven't seen anything worse out of his play than Gus or Mez. So this whole doghouse thing confuses me.
I think our D is about on par with what it was last season. Problem is our offense has been so poor we haven't been getting the points. I like the system change. We just have to begin scoring...
At this point I don't know the answers. I can just cheer them on. - FlyersGrace

The fact that this woman (let's call her PCW for short) doesn't watch a lick of hockey but instead ogles players on her camera or tablet all game creeped out my wife, who'd not been to a game in almost 2 years. Between her aforementioned issue (and her blocking view constantly), the know-nothing fans that have to pretend to know everything when they can just STFU, and the coarse language with little kids around, we're giving up our season tickets. I'd rather stay home than hang out with NY fans in PHI clothing. That probably explains the change in the "Let's go Flyers" cadence. |

The defense, overall, had played much better than last year. They still have in-zone issues, but it's better. However, we still make 7-8 mistakes a game (bad giveaways in the neutral zone, failed clears) and the other teams have been capitalizing on them. But it's not as bad as last year where it was a bunch of chickens with their heads cut off. |

It's not about simply losing games to me...it's about the best way to develop those young assets...throwing them to the wolves now doesn't seem to me the best way to handle them.
I'm far more concerned that Mark Alt becomes a good second pair defenseman for this team for five or ten years than bringing him up to see how well he can play right now. |
