That sound you hear is the sound of hundreds of football writers whining about losing their free vacation to a sunny destination in early February. - johndewar
Dumb idea having the SB in a cold weather City. I love watching games and going to games for that matter in the elements, but I don't want to see the Super Bowl decided on a potentially frozen field. Pretty stupid idea by the NFL. |

I forgave you. I just haven't forgotten. Sorry for knocking over your popcorn "accidentally" when I came back from the restroom during the escape to the mother shop scene. - Flyskippy
That's OK...I actually was visiting my mom at work. She used to work in the Haddon Twp tax office, and I'd go to lunch with her when I was in the area. We were getting ready to head out and she says, "Oh My goodness, you have to see the 6th sense!" and her co-worker blurts out, "Yeah! Can't believe that Bruce Willis was really a ghost!!"
Needless to say, I told my mom to meet me at the diner from then on. |

The Stanley Cup Final will be a series of outdoor games, played across the south and game 7 will be in Hawaii!
I kind of like having a league championship game not be a neutral site game, weather be damned |

Why would Dallas do that trade? They could get better than Luke Schenn if they were to be willing to move Nichushkin at age 18. - bmeltzer
The Stars traded a 27 year old Grossman (who has a similar skillset to Luke Schenn) for a 2nd and a 3rd. In my opinion, Schenn's ceiling is to be another Grossman. Grossman, who the flyers would probably love to trade, if they could get a 2nd round pick for him.
That's why you don't trade the 2nd overall pick for a defensive defenseman.
Edit : a defensive defenseman with below average speed no less. |

Schenn for Seguin probably makes more sense for both sides.
I know it's a slight overreaction because JVR is tearing it up, and Schenn has struggled mightily and now is a healthy scratch, by I'm terrified when the smoke clears this trade ends up looking as one sided as possible. |

I don't have a real problem with it. Important games leading up to the Super Bowl are played in the elements. Why not the Super Bowl?
I just think it's funny how many writers are gonna write that "I don't want to see the Super Bowl decided in adverse weather angle" when they really mean "I'm pissed that I'm not in Florida, New Orleans, or California right now on the company dime". |

Can't focus on that, because what's done is done. Now the path they have to take is to get the most they can out of Schenn or get the best possible trade return.
I wonder if they can package the Schenns for the Benns |

All other sports Championships are best of 7. Having the team with the best record host the Super Bowl isn't a good idea imo. |

That is a factor, being a one off...but the weather angle doesn't worry me as much.
NFC Championship game has been played in the snow and freezing temps of Green Bay several times. |

True. No sense in worrying about it, cause nothing can be done about it. If the Flyers truly intend on trading L. Schenn they have to let him play, and pull the trigger when he's playing at his best.
They sold drastically low on JVR because he was coming off an injury plagued season. His value was probably at an all-time low. |

Definitely. The Freezer Bowl in Cincinnati in 82 the wind chills were 50 below zero. The poor Chargers and Dan Fouts played the week before in Miami. They didn't know what hit them.

No Idea. Ek said Dallas was shopping L.Schenn and they needed defensive D-men. Didn't realize Schenn's value was so low while Nichsuhkins was so high being that be dropped to 10. |

I don't think the Flyers are actually all that eager to trade Grossmann (although there might be a firesale scenario if they continue to struggle where it would make sense). Before they got him, they had a need for a reliable coverage defenseman who blocked a lot of shots and had a bit of a physical edge. Schenn is a bit more physical and younger but less reliable in coverage. You can tell based upon ice time which of the two Berube has more confidence in -- and it's not that Grossmann has been great by any means this season.

I think pre-game warm-ups should include a beer. They can't play worse right?

Hey... if it helps loosen the grip on their sticks.
When I lived in North NJ, I used to play hockey w/a guy that would drink a 6-pack before we went out on the ice for warm-ups. |

Curious to see Jakub Voracek on the left side; he's a player who almost always enters the offensive zone from the middle-to-right side, so there could be an adjustment period there.
With the Hurricanes as banged up as they are...man. The Flyers have got to take advantage of this. At this point of the season, 13 games in, this is about as healthy as an NHL roster as the Flyers can ice.
And yes...I still believe they can make the playoffs. It won't be easy, at all. But if they have a good week this week... |

If Berube thinks the best way to wins games and keep his job past this season is sending out Meszaros and Gill instead of Gustafsson than Schenn, then I don't blame him for doing so. But the future of the franchise would be better served by letting the young guys play and try and get back to the high level they were at in March and April. At the moment, this is a Flyers team I have no interest in watching. All I do is hope for no long term injuries or bad trades. |

It's two games and they've been lousy. I have no issues with him sitting back a couple of games from the Shelley suite to light a fire. If it becomes consistent then I don't see the point other than you're moving on. |

It's sad that we're at the point where we can't do both -- I really wish Luke Schenn and Gus were playing and at least looking like they were holding their own, if not showing improvement.
It was painful to see how much more calm the defense looked, for the most part, when Hal Gill was on the ice. The man...I shouldn't even say anything negative about him, because he was helpful on Saturday.
It's brutal that Schenn has played himself out of the lineup. Not just because of who he was traded for. But because we really need a defenseman his age to play well.
