And said that with Mr. Tandem Coach. Berube, I'd think, is more likely to pick a number 1 and Mason is the younger and more likely if good to be longer-term goalie. I love Razor, but that bionic hip scares me. - bodiva88
It's possible. I actually expected heading into the year that one guy would get 50 or so starts and the other would get 30 or so. Not a true 50-50 tandem, but both guys would see regular action.
And I also felt that it was likely the 50 games or so would go to the tall ginger haired boy from Ontario. |

Just a little surprised Emery is not back in goal after his shutout performance, not to mention possibly waking his team up with his big scrap against the Caps. He was signed to be the number one and until lately has not even got a sniff, what is up with that? Looks like the Flyers want Mason to be their man, maybe because of his age?? - flyerdude17
I think Emery played well against NJ, but with 14 shots on net the shutout was all but served to him on a platter. Mason's been worlds ahead of him overall this year |

He wasn't even anything special against the Devils. He was hardly tested and the Devils flat out missed numerous times. That game could have easily been 4-1 Devils. - MBFlyerfan
He had a few tough stops off scrambles, and handled the long stretches between shots well.
Granted he didn't have to work that hard. |

Probably because he's a lot better than Emery and more physically able to handle #1 duties. |

He wasn't signed to be the number one, Flyers said at the time they were going to run a tandem. Mason's been very good to brilliant all year, so he's pretty much earned the job. Emery played well against the Devils, but overall, he hasn't been as good. - Jsaquella
Emery really neve got a chance with Mason doing well. I agree with what you have said but one thing about Emery is being overlooked. EMERY makes every player on his team better when he is in net, he demands work ethic and will get the best out of the team in front of him. He commands respect and he can back it up. |

What is the issue with Russians? They are not the same. Its just like saying all Black NBA players are the same.
I want to bring in a young sniper. Stars cant do it themselves... Ovie has Backstrom. Crosby has Malkin, Getzlaf has Perry, Marleau has Thornton, Sedin has Sedin.... We need to get Giroux that guy, and since Yakupov might be available... I would jump all over it. - youarewrong
I don't have an issue with Russian players at all. The Red Wing teams of the 90s were full of Russians and I would argue those teams were some of the best teams in league history. The Flyers track record with Russians is somewhat troubling and the fans would rip Yakupov up one side and down the other if they felt he was dogging it. I agree that G could use a sniper and what I have seen from him and Vinny they have good chemistry. I must admit I do not concur on your assessment of Crosby has Malkin...they are both centers on 2 different lines and rarely ever play together. G needs to make the players around him better and as much as I hate Sidney, Dupuis and Kunitz would not have the same success playing with G as they do playing with Crosby. |

I hope that's true. Cuz if Mason gets pulled we need something to wake the players up.
As it is I'm actually pretty comfortable with both in net. Emery is going to get his starts, no question.
It's a long season before we figure out who they try and re-sign... |

I used to go to DOK's but it's rare these days.
And my comic collection is pretty sad once I got out of college so I'm never in Comicmania... |

My kid has transitioned from the adorable to handsome now at 16. He and his girlfriend are a lovely couple until she starts talking then it's a hurricane of words.
My wife and I are broke, worn down hockey parents.

Maybe in Middle School. If he had stayed in the area they would have played Varsity against each other. They missed each other in the DVHL I think. We didn't play the Firebirds the year he was there. |

I really think they didn't know going into the season but were hopeful on Mason. It was an open competition. Emery didn't have a strong preseason and his first game in the regular season was far less than spectacular. |

I hate to say it because I love Hartsy but he may be done as a scorer and may be better off replacing Talbot on the third line. 35 games without an assist is not just bad luck. There has to be more to it when you consider he has played along Giroux for most of the time. That is one ugly statistic for a power forward, lol. - flyerdude17
Let's hope he's not done because that is one boat anchor of a contract for a grinder. Year 1 of a 6 year deal. He sure had the best year of his career at the right time. It's a shame that Holmgren signed Hartnell to an extension a year before they had to. If he had waited a few month until he was halfway through last season things might've been different. |

I wonder if Holmgren would like a do-over on that contract. I know Hartnell's contract was signed before last season but looking back, it is amazing how much the Flyers brass discounted last season's dismal play as having a lack of a training camp and then proceeded to have the worst training camp of all time. |
