As long as Gus and Luke Schenn get back into the lineup on Saturday, then at least we're doing the right thing developmentally.

We're one of the three worst teams in the league right now. On merit. A bit more than 15 percent of the season is in the books, and that's a big enough sample size to get a feel for where this is headed.

Play the younger players we have for as many minutes as they can stand, rotate the kids up from the Phantoms as injuries strike, (likely) get a Top-5 pick, likely have new management in place for the draft, maybe even a new coach.

Ask Timonen where he wants to go, see if Hartnell is willing to waive the NMC and if another team would like to have him.

Really, that's about all that's left. It's tough to see it, but really, they've been playing like this for so long...there's really nothing that can be done to fix this team during the season.

So you just acknowledge that and look for positive signs for the young players.

- AllInForFlyers

Yep. Get more of the kids up. McGinn, Akeson, Manning...you name it. If Mezaros plays again all season, it will be too soon. Waive him, trade him and pay his salary, do whatever it takes. Send Kimmo packing. Maybe he can get his buddy Hartnell to waive his no trade and they can go together. And I'm not certain Some of the current young stars aren't at risk. This team has no sacred cows right now.

Thanks, but we could just pluck Omark from waivers on his way back down to OKC -- and keep Simmonds.

Do that deal if they take Mezaros as well.

Icing an all-AHL team is always the best option.

No, you give the young players the responsibility to be front-line players, and then respond to the results.

When Mike Keenan took over the Bruins, he inherited a young Joe Thornton who hadn't really taken that next step forward. Keenan was asked what he was going to do, and his answer was basically, "Play the hell out of him and make him sink or swim."

If they sink, you have the answer. If they swim, then they are part of the solution.

But what I'm saying is no different than other teams in the league have done, or will do, with young players.

Someone please tell this to Berube and Snider!

We just need to fire Lavi, the players are clearly not playing hard for him.

Playing Meszaros and Gill as the third pair didn't work out? What a shock.

Berube and Holmgren must be looking at what other positions in the organization they can be assigned to once this season is over, if not earlier.

I am just beyond baffled. I have never seen anything like this. The only thing I can relate to what I see from today's team is that series again Ottawa in the playoffs where the Flyers quit in 2002.

The Flyers held a closed-door team meeting after the game. When the locker room doors opened, club president Ed Snider was in conversation with Claude Giroux just outside the locker room. Giroux ultimately left without speaking to reporters.

And (in bold), here's one of the problems

I was at the game in Raleigh on Tuesday. I have never seen a sloppier, less motivated team in O and B. Maybe G is still not 100%...but he is God awful right now.

I keep hearing the players, media, and some fans say they are "doing the right things out there" and "It's all mental right now". Not moving your feet is not mental, it's lazy. Not being able to score more than 1 goal on a career AHL goalie is not mental, is lack of effort. If they truly believe what they are saying, then we should be looking forward to the #1 pick next summer.

I said the coaching move was ill timed when it happened. Now I think Berube was a horrible decision. I think this team is getting worse and has less direction than before.

I agree with this 100%. It looks like he has zero answers. He appears completely clueless behind the bench.

Flyers fans are past getting angry. They're starting to get apathetic. The Flyers are turning into the Oakland Raiders of the NHL.

This team is so bad it might take the rest of the decade to really fix.

But Murray couldn't have done worse as replacement coach this season than Berube has.

I already said I didn't think he was the right choice. I don't think he's the problem, but not the direction I would have gone in. Either way no matter who the coach is the way the players are playing is inexcusable.

More specifically, not sure what earned him a multi year deal. Would have liked a tryout basis first. Unless over 35 deals count for coaches too, then it all makes sense.

Homer said he's the smartest coach he knows

I don't think any coach can do any better at this point, it's time to start moving some players around.

I would disagree with this statement as I have seen teams compete a year or 2 after a season like this, but with all of the NTC and NMC we have, it just may take a decade.

It's a mess. I don't want Holmgren to be allowed to make any desperation moves while he's in job saving mode.

in bold, how long is this excuse going to last??

that, and, "still learning the system"

It appears no one gives a $iht on this team, really, you watch the Rangers, who were racked with injuries, and they played with hustle & defense & pulled a few out, then you watch this slop.

Hartnell's contract expires in 2019.

On the positive side this should be the last season here for Meszaros, Gill and Timonen.

And too be fair, right now he's trying to build a house of cards out of napkins. The team is giving him nothing to work with.

I saw a clip from an interview with Lappy not long after the change, and he said "you can't scare the players anymore", you have to try to find a way to motivate them in other ways (I'm paraphrasing because I forget exactly how he put the second part).

Sorry, but that's not working. If Snider going to the room and threatening them with tickets to Tallahassee is what it takes to fire 'em up and get the lead out of their asses, it's fine by me.
