I wouldn't argue with that. My problem is trading for another kid with potential. Couts, L Schenn, B Schenn, Voracek - all top 10 picks not long ago.
Then again, Yakupov would fit right in on this team with his 1 goal and 3 points. - wolfhounds
I hate that word as well....more in love with Coburn in a package going to Edm for Eberle then Yak, but at this point i am taking either |

i like simmonds a ton, but if you can turn him into yakupov its worth a shot. my only worry is any potential character issues yak may have (he admittedly may have none, im not an expert on his personality) this flyers team cant afford adding less heart. but from what i have seen of his game, the guy is definitely a talent for sure. - stayinthefnnet
A lot of Flyers fans say the same thing. My responce.... He was mad about being sat.... If he was Canadian it would be looked at as a desire to play... because he is Russian he is a discontent.... But if the reverse happened and he sat and was OK with it, then it would have been...lazy uncaring Russian... But as a Canadian it would be "team player". |

FYI I dont and never will believe one word panotch reports....he is the worst...Dreger came out like 10 minutes later saying Eberle trade will not happen - nonpoint22
And that's fine -- all teams have untouchables; the Flyers do, too.
But at some point, you have to wonder how so many bad teams have so many untouchables -- I remember for years Florida wouldn't trade Nathan Horton, wouldn't trade Nathan Horton, wouldn't trade Nathan Horton...then the first season they play after trading Horton, they make the playoffs.
Columbus' best season since making the only playoff appearance in their franchise history came during the same season they traded Rick Nash.
Just a cautionary tale that we should heed, too -- if you're a truly awful hockey team, slapping the label of untouchable on player after player, year after year, might be as big a problem as you have |

if thats truly all it was, i wont begrudge a guy for wanting to play, if he is going to give his all while he is out there. i didnt really know what it all was, i just heard rumblings. like i said, i know his stats are poopty but the taent is definitely there. definitely no eberle, but if you can add a guy with pure sniping skills, id be all for it from a flyers point of view. |

You make an interesting point, however those teams were low budget teams who had all there ducks in that one player....cant really say that about the Flyers or Oilers....but I do agree with your overall point |

i totally agree. i understand having a few key pieces and wanting to build around them. but when you have this laundry list of untouchables and still suck, you have to start questioning things. if you have THAT many guys that are that good that cant be moved, you should be significantly closer to where you want to be than not. with that many guys that are so valuable, the play should reflect it.

Trading either Coburn or Mason for Yakupov is a bad deal for us. Coburn is our leading defenseman, and Mason is getting the job done in net and potentially could hold the job down for the next 10+ years. I like the idea of stability in net. Why would we go after an aging - and much more expensive Miller - when we've already got a solid goalie?
I'd prefer to see Laughton on the Flyers next season.
Simmonds I'd drive to the airport. Same with Hartnell, but he likely wouldn't go to Edmonton unless he knew they were a contender sooner rather than later.
Throw Smid in the mix and the conversation changes. - wolfhounds
The fact you wouldnt trade Coburn to get Yakupov almost mad me stop reading your post there.... I can kind of agree with Mason, but I can also see it the other way...
But FOr Hartnell.... He might just waive to go to Edmonton... Its his home. |

It extremely unlikely any teams at the bottom of the standings trade their 1st this early.
Coburn & Schenn Bros. for Eberle and Smid, now you've got my attention. |

3 year rebuilt with Haag and Morin, Gus is getting there. 2 first rounders from oilers for 2014 and 2015 (Mcdavid?) with a winner like Eberle. Why the hell not. |

That sounds better cause they have to take the salary of the players acquired....What is Edmonton's cap situation? |

$4.5 million in cap space this season, but they've gotta resign Petry, J Schultz, and a couple others this offseason. |

Exactly -- I realize it's all subjective to what those organizations see every day, what they're trying to build. But yeah, at some point, you need to start winning hockey games.
It's that simple. Kevin Dineen didn't get fired today for not respecting the potential of Jonathan Huberdeau and Alexander Barkov. And I'm not picking on Florida's kids -- some of them like Barkov just got there.
But at the same time, Dineen got fired because the Panthers didn't win enough hockey games. And at the end of the day, that's all that matters when the bill comes due.

Maybe, that's why I say it's a gamble. With that trade we get 2 1st rounder in 2014 and 2 1st rounders in 2015.
If Edm or philly is in the bottom 3 which is most likely.... well Mcdavid or a 1st or 2nd on each year 2014 and 2015 is likely possible.
You guys wanna rebuilt, that's a possibility. At the same time Haag and Morin and Laughton have a couple more years to join the big club and Cousins also.
It's a strategy, just a thought I'm putting out there |

You still need defense and Coburn is leading the D in ice time.
And as I said, Yakupov has potential, just like Couts, Laughton, B Schenn, L Schenn, and Voracek. He has 1 goal and 3 points so far this season. Not exactly lighting it up so that I would want to trade our most dependable defenseman for him. Think about it, who does that leave on D for this season and next, especially if L Schenn is out of favor?
But if Smid or another defenseman is coming back to us, that changes the scenario.
