At this point I'd rather overpay in a deal and not give up any of the core guys than make a "hockey" trade and give one of the core guys.

Just too many holes on the team right now...

Hall would be destroy if Eberle gets trade it away, but reality is if MacT wants to make and received Big time return in a trade then Eberle would be the one right now to bring that, but I don't think MacT is making any trades like that yet this season,I think any big trades will happen when the season is done or draft day,I believe MacT is just trying to work trades involving Hemsky, prospects and picks.

Do you still think the bottom 6 is the problem here?

I'm not saying MacT SHOULD trade Eberle or Hall or RNH...I'm just saying if he really wants to change the team's fortunes that's what he has to do. It's risky as Hell.

Plus it sends a huge message to the rest of the young guns...anyone can be traded.

Good point, and risky trades are the ones that pay off.

I still think Reimer is the best candidate for this team. Not just because I'm a Leafs fan too, but Reimer isn't a goalie protected by a good system, like say... Elliott. He's used to being peppered and left out to dry and still wins. That's the kind of guy Edmonton needs, and the coach already has faith in him.

But like Djamon is saying, you need to pay up if you want a for-sure fix. That's why you have to consider a 1st and prospect like Klefbom.

Put it this way, Schneider fetched a 9th overall pick. And everyone felt that was steal for NJ, other GM's were pissed and would have given up more had they known. Hell the Oilers did. Blues gave up a very very good prospect in Eller to get Halak.

I just posted this in the other thread:

Hall-Gagner-Yakupov
XXXX-Nuge-Ebs
Perron-Gordon-XXXX
Smyth-Acton-Jones

You think about acquiring the likes of Ott, and Kulemin for those holes, and concievably you could do so for a boatload of picks and prospects. In my mind the addition of antagonizing/complimentary defensive wingers could make the whole operation click. (in an ideal world the 4th line gets a makeover too).

I just mean in terms of fixing the forwards, I don't see a major move being necessary.

In terms of defense, either we sit tight and see how our guys develop, or we make a MAJOR move. There's no halfway move that helps that dcore IMO.

As for goaltending, there's no one to wait on. We need a trade or signing to improve.

Being that our draft pick is top 3 right now I'd be reluctant to trade it straight up for the kinds of goaltenders that are available.

That being said I would trade our 1st + player/pick+prospect for a late 1st/two 2nds + goaltender

too many pages of posts to read, but was Anderson from Ottawa talked about as an option. Lehner can and probably should be their starter, send back Duby as back up plus a piece like hemsky to get that deal done.

I would agree to that, wasn't saying straight up per say, but essentially the core of the deal.

Tried really hard not to get into the derp show that this thread is today... but cant....

Our top 6/9 forward group is not the issue with this team at all. Could we use Joenssu back. Absolutely. But the problem this year is the goals against. Not goals for. Goaltending and D need upgrades. Not forwards.

Ference and Smid are not good enough to shut down the other teams top lines. They are not good enough in front of the net or on the wall. Schultz and Petry are very good puck movers. But they will need better partners if they are going to be successful. Duby has been brutal. Im done defending him.

MacT has been pretty clear. They are not going to overpay. They may wait until summer when the goaltending ufa class is looking great. So anyone thinking Reimer (who I like) is going to net our 1st and Klefbom is going to be very disappointed.

If the Oilers are interested in Reimer as a Leafs fan I would listen.
I understand it's not going to be for Klefbom and a first as stated previously in the thread, that's just unrealistic.
Reimer won't be cheap though. He's 25, has put up stellar numbers and he's done it behind a shoddy D and in the media capital of Canada where they're either trying to get him into the Hall of Fame one day and run him out of town the next.
The 1A, 1B goalie system is working great right now but if you could shore up another area, I'd let Bernier run with it.

What about Reimer and a 3rd or 4th for Edmonton's first?

Or....On a blockbuster type of level

Reimer, Gauthier and Percy
for Edmonton's First and Darnell Nurse

Oilers get their Goalie of the present and future, a first round pick two way defenseman who is ready NOW and the future 2nd/3rd line defensive center with size they've been looking for.
Leafs get a defenseman who's still two years or so away with higher upside and the First.

Realistic? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

You're right in that d is the biggest issue, but our forwards give the other team a free ride on some entires. I thin they need to improve defensively too

I would not be surprised if the Blues traded Elliott. I doubt that they trade Halak.

Ok, what do you want for Elliott?
