There must be something between both teams that works. Philly has a ton of NMC / NTC which impact some moves.

Sure the Oilers could turn Eberle into Giroux. They just have to include Hall and Schultz.
Given Giroux's awful year, when he's on (which he hasn't been), he's a point-per-game player and one of the top-5 forwards in the league. The problem is, for the past 30 games or so, he hasn't been on. That said, the Flyers would be foolish to make a 1-for-1 trade, or even Eberle+random assets trade, and I'm a big Eberle fan. |

Simmonds - LeftCoaster
Sadly, Simmonds could probably somehow fetch more, and at a friendlier cap hit. For some reason, he's very highly coveted throughout the league. |

I believe there is some traction to this rumor...
However, I am willing to bet my own life that a G for Eberle swap WILL NOT HAPPEN. Makes NO sense for either team. Realistically, I see one of a few trades scenarios being proposed, see below:
A) Couturier + Coburn ------> Eberle + 2nd/3rd pick
B) Schenn's + prospect X ---------> Eberle+
C) Coburn, Read, and Cousins or Laughton --------> Eberle+ |

This could get interesting, I'll be watching closely. Yesterday I was on about how the Oilers needed a player like Simmonds in their top six, I stand by that and say the deal (if there is in fact one) will be centred around Simmonds. |

Eberle's contract isn't a bargain, but it's alright. |

If you get the 11/12 Simmonds, you're gonna get a rock of a guy who will drive the net hard, pop in a few goals, level some bodies, and will fight if needed. If you get the 12/13 or 13/14 (to date) Simmonds, you'll get a $4+M cap penalty. |

So two teams that need defense are discussing forwards? Seems short-sighted. |

The Flyers defense has been fine. They can't score goals. Know what you're talking about next time. |

Agreed, it's fair market value. And I can't think of a real comparison, as I think Simmonds should go for young D help, if at all. |

Yup. Funny how EVERYONE seems to think the Flyers D has been the issue. It hasn't been, at all. It's their inability score. |

Giroux is a force to be reckoned... Don't think of this as a great trade because we need D and goalie, not a forward, but hey, a trade like this can shake things up. I also think Giroux is a more complete player and he plays with an edge. Ebs is great but we heve too much of that.
Do it mact! I order my Giroux jersey tomorrow!
Hold on .... Maybe the oilers are asking philly to take it easy on dubey tomorrow!!!! |

Number-wise, yes. Nick Zherdev has a good statistical season is 10/11 for the Flyers, but he was awful. Not comparing the two, just saying the stats told 1/2 of the story. |

lol, thanks. All obviously highly, highly theoretical, but I think there is legit traction here. Both teams are in need of some help in certain areas, so it's very possible something comes from this, who knows?
As for option A), the rationale is that Edmonton already has the offensive talent to win, they just need to tighten up defensively, and I figure Coburn and certainly Couturier would immediately address this. |

So then why do when I talk to Philly fans they say the main areas of concerns and need is defense?
Both teams have high profile forwards. This just seesm odd to me. |
