I would do Simmonds plus one more asset (depending on that asset of course)for Yakupov in a second. - MBFlyerfan
I'd try to expand the deal to get Jeff Petry, too.
Simmonds and the Schenns for Yak, Petry & something else? It's a high price, but you free up cap, and fill a couple needs...not sure if it's too much or not enough. Just literally off the top of my head. |

That is a far offer. And fills most of the Oilers needs. It shouldn't be too tough to get a deal done with them already having RNH,Hall,Eberle& Ganger. They won't miss Yak if they fill some of the gaping holes everywhere else. |

An old-fashioned hockey trade, in a league where a few too many guys are scared to make them...it'd be nice to see. |

Well Yakupov's agent just went on the radio in EDM after meeting with Oilers management and said Yak would be open to a trade.
- hereticpride
Open to a trade, asking for a trade, and being on the trading block are three very different things. |

Even if they want Coburn instead of Luke Schenn, it's doable for me.
I'd rather get Eberle than Yakupov, but either guy fills a need, just want to get Giroux a sniper |

Agreed. I think Coburn could be the deal sealer. Rags, Devils, whoever really dont have a big guy like that to offer, and they sorely need that kind of guy. |

Well, the Devils could offer Larsson...not sure that the Oilers would want him, as he has struggled. |

funny, i prefer him over the other two. - hammarby31
As do I, and it's not even all that close right now. Berube, who is not someone to handle out idle compliments, just heaped praise on Grossmann the other day -- something he has not done at all for 22 of 41. It's clear that 8 has the coach's confidence and the other two do not.

This. Exactly this.
Because we really ought to endeavor to give our best player, the one we're going to pay $8-plus million to over eight years, somebody who can be his trigger man for 35-40 goals, automatic.
Whether it's Yakupov, or somebody we draft, whatever...that really needs to happen.

It was indeed .
Benji was all kinds of excited to go to practice today and kept talking about meeting the goalies in particular. But when we got down to the locker room, he got overwhelmed and a bit scared. Ended up clinging to my leg and was on brink of tears, asking if we could leave. The players, especially Matt Read (who made a point of trying to welcome him), were very nice but I guess Benji just wasn't ready for it yet. He did love the practice itself.
Downie still has blood on his eye apart from the shiner and swelling around his mouth. |

I do think a bigger need is more mobility on the blueline, which is why I suggest Petry. Good sized himself at 6'3" 195, he's a good skater, righty shot and very capable with the puck. |

That's still pretty cool for the little guy to get to hang.
I remember back in the days when the Flyers would play slo-pitch. for charity. My grandfather was the bartender at the VFW in Pennsauken, and the Pennsauken PD played the Flyers. Afterwards they all went to the VFW to have some food and beer. I was maybe 4 or 5, and real shy, but my sister had zero fear. She ended up sitting on Clarkie's lap for a good twenty minutes or so.
I wish I still had the pictures from that. |

While I look at the current blueline with despair, I'm really not as worried about it for the future as I probably should be.
Alt, Ghost, Morin, Hagg...one of them has to be able to play, right? Maybe even two of them, if we're lucky?
It won't be a finished process for a couple of years, which is tough to swallow, but just getting Meszaros off the roster, and giving Kimmo Timonen the respect he deserves but also having him move along...the defense could look better next season, and I think/hope it will.
I'd love to have another guy who we all know can play, but good Lord. You can't even get a 20-year-old Russian without giving up half the roster; I don't even want to guess what it'd take to get an actual defenseman in here who can skate, move the puck and play even a halfway decent defensive game. |

That's why I only deal with other struggling teams right now, who are also desperate to save the sinking ship.
Of course, if they're still scuffling late in the season, then they can start to sell off the vets and pending FAs to contenders...and based on the prices paid at the last TDL, they should be able to get decent prices. |

We wouldn't have to give up half the roster. When I suggested Coburn, Simmonds, and a pick in the Edm blog, a few people told me that'd be an over payment. One Edm fan said just Coburn and Simmonds. If we were to package Coburn, Simmonds, and a pick for Yak and Petry, we would not have made any holes in the roster by acquiring Yak. |

I'd love for it to be that simple, because to be honest, it should be -- it was always player/prospect/pick, for a really good player. Giving up two roster players? That deal should be able to get done, as stated.
But for whatever reason, now everybody thinks that "potential" means you should pay more. I mean, seriously. I like Nail Yakupov's skill set, offensive ability. And that's the only reason I'd even consider giving up a 22-minute a night defenseman like Cobun, who is underrated by a few too many, AND a 25-year-old forward who is a 20-goal scorer who will get 80-100 PIMs.
Plus a pick?
That offer should get a hell of a lot of players in this league, not just Nail Yakupov.

The issue then becomes if they openly shop the guy. If you have ten teams bidding, it generally drives the price up.

Cant tell you for sure, but one website says at the Loews at 12th and Market, and one said at the Four Seasons. The Four Seasons is crazy expensive, so my bet out of the two would be at the Loews. - JAKEw1234

what's wrong with simmonds coburn and ? for yakupov - 2Real
Simmonds, yes. Coburn, no.
Our D might not be great now, but it gets a hell of a lot worse without Coburn in it. And it stays that way for a few years.
Not to mention adding a defensively challenged forward while taking out our top D-man. Bad chemistry there. |
