I think this is what management needs to ask themselves. 1. Are they happy with Eakins system\vision going forward? If answer is No, get him to change that system or get New coach with a system you believe in. If the answer is yes, figure out who is having an issue with the new system and why. If its a matter of the player trying but is having a hard time adjusting to the new system that is one thing but if it is the player just doesn't like the system or won't follow it, it is time to trade that player.

I really think no matter what system we were running it wouldn't work with our current roster makeup. Besides the issues we have had with goaltending and the obvious issues on D with not having a true #1 (and maybe #2) Dman that is strong defensively as well, our forward core just doesn't seem to be working. We have too many perimeter players and it just isn't working. Thank God for the Perron trade as he is one of our only skilled players that with consistently go to the net, we need more of that from our players or trade some perimeter players for ones that aren't afraid to go to the net.

That trade made me a MacT believer. More of those please MacT.

I never got the whole "building around goalies" idea. People talk like it's building around a quarteback, but with how flash-in-the-pan they are it seems more like building around a kick returner to me.
- Morris

There was a time where you could do that, but the past 15 years goalies are that flash in the pan. I liked the idea of going to Europe and not drafting goalies though.

Yeah, typical sensationalist titling by Ek, but the article itself was surprisingly reasonable.

It will take years to see if we lost that trade. We got a solid young goalie, but who knows about them?

Not sure would edm qualify lander, if not, then horak stays. The goalie prospect has long ways to go. I wouldn't bank on anything with him. Edm needs another high end goalie prospect to challenge him.

Don't get me wrong I don't think this team is a winner, but with the right system we should be in the playoffs. We were in the fight last year with less.

Our bottom 6 is better, but goaltending wasnt an issue last year. D is about the same.

#Oilers lines today --> Perron-RNH-Eberle, Hall-Gagner-Hemsky, Smyth-Arcobello-Yakupov, Joensuu-Gordon-Jones, Gazdic-Acton-MacIntyre.

I guess it depends how you post it.

- Lahey

I'd switch Hemsky and Eberle.

You have to think the more games played by Hemsky injury free, the more valuable he gets. Pretty solid so far.

Well then I guess for better or for worse, you're stuck with him. Guy has done nothing other than get drafted first overall and over celebrate a meaningless goal. Completely unproven. Yeah, he has potential. But he also has an already glaring problem when it comes to "team" and "team play". Guy has been in the league all of what, 60+ games and he's ready to bail on the team that drafted him???!!!!

Kings ransom? Pffft. I don't think any GM is giving up more than a first and a 4 - 6 player for a diva with doesn't play well with others issues...

How do you value Huberdeau ?

Yeah, I mean he's probably gonna get hurt sooner than later, but it's nice that's he's played most of his games since 11-12, as opposed to the two seasons before that.

I totally agree and going into this year I was hoping they would be fighting for the 8th spot. But in all honesty I wouldn't have expected them to get past the 1st round. Heck with our team makeup I expected us to get decimated in the 1st round as we are not built for the playoffs.

Sure, but there is nothing wrong with making it and losing first round. That was the next step. I figured we'd have a couple tough years in the playoffs and then move an Eberle or whoever, but now we can't even make it

The one I'll never get is when trolls say the Oilers are not built for success and that their team is flawed, and then tell us each that Yakupov doesn't hold a candle to Gally or Huberdeau, or Hall to Tavares, because the Oilers team is so unreasonably loaded with so much talent.
