Ummmm often!? Remember how last season started for Philip? Wasn't Bozak his centre?
- 1979AD

Yeah 4 points in his first 7. Not 1 in seven.

If they bring Gleason in for Liles, they've got to move another defender. Either that means trading Gardiner, sending Rielly down, or something...but theres no sense in moving Liles and his contract to bring in another veteran dman and virtually the same contract...
- Colin Dambrauskas

Well, we wouldn't because Liles is our 8th d-man on the depth chart. We just had to send him down because we needed a forward with Kadri suspended.

It would be....

JVR Bozak Kessel

Lupul Kadri Clarkson

Raymond Holland Kulemin

McLaren McClement Orr

Smithson

Send Ashton and Smith down to Marlies. Bodie has already been sent down. You could even send Holland down if you'd rather him play top 6 with the Marlies and not inch closer to the 25 game, make it a 2nd rounder condition.

Gunnarsson Phaneuf

Gardiner Franson

Fraser Gleason

And during those 7 games, Kadri was his centre in two of those games. Only 2, why? not because it wasn't working, rather because the only other option was moving JVR to centre. Well, they probably could've called up McKegg too I guess.
- mykokes

Sorry it was 4 and Kessel scored his points in the first two. Then the Vancouver game the line couldn't compete.

- Dozzer

Meh, I get it but it actually happens more often then you think. Forwards are generally pretty easy to call up when something happens. But defense is critical and tend to get banged up more often.

Most coaches (at least I think/assume) like to have 8 NHL caliber d-men on the roster.

Just an interesting thought to bring in a shutdown guy and actually make the money count. Gleason is a mean bastard and would probably thrive under Carlyle

Only worry I have is whether he's over his concussion. Plus he's lefthanded lol....I want to see another Holland type trade, but this time with Ashton and Holzer for Michael Stone! Yeah, that ship sailed.....

Yeah, and it is a pretty poopty contract. But, it's not like Liles' is any better, at least Gleason brings some needed intangibles.

Chances are this ship will sail too and we'll end up trading Liles for some poopty AHL roster player and a 6th rounder and eat like 30% of his salary lol

Well, we'll be completely free of all buyout penalties and retained salary come next July so why not keep the streak alive right!? lol

Comes down to what's better. Saving 900k or saving 2 million. We should of just compliance bought him out in the first place I guess they still held out some hope that he had some trade value left.

A standard Komisarek buyout would of been like 1.5 for 2 years.

Well we gonna eat Liles contract next summer as they will most certainly buy him out(1.4mil range over 4yrs)...That why imo if a Liles for Gleason deal could happen it's something the Leafs should consider..Gleason might actually fit into RC style of game..Liles will never work under RC.....

Noted, and will gladly revisit later this year. Just remember, that's statement is as much an opinion as me saying Kadri will be Kessel's centre. You can tell me I'm wrong later in the year of course Bruce.

I think the question should be "why should we not be able to discuss differences of opinion without someone's obvious insecurities making that impossible?"

please note i used the expression "forseeable future"

which means "as far as I can tell" in its basic essence.

whose insecurities?

if you were here day in and day out you'd understand how this particular topic has become akin to fingernails on a chalkboard.

admittedly i was one of the guilty parties as well.. but i am trying to back off and lead by example.

Gleason is a tough bottom pairing guy that would most likely thrive under a coach like Carlyle. He would slide in the mix with Fraser, Ranger or Rielly on the bottom pairing and add depth to the d-core.

Liles is another offensive d-man that's stuck in the 8th spot and doesn't have a chance at playing unless the team gets decimated by injuries.

Carolina needs offense from the backend. We need a tough, shutdown guy. A JML for Gleason swap addresses areas of need for both teams. Both have identical contracts.

That's it.
