Did nothing? I think Perron was added to provide grit ( not a small player, not big either mind you) and why do you think they added Joensuu? - Jeropotato
Perron is an upgrade on MP, but he's not the stud the top 2 lines need. Jonesu has limited potential and many posters here agree--I'm talking a type of player like ex-Oiler Chimera, Ward, King, etc. They have size, speed and grit. We have elite-level talent to burn. We just need 1 big, fast winger on each line to help them realize their full potential. It is painfully obvious that 3 smallish linemates, no matter how gritty each of them may be, aren't a successful combination in the league now. We'd absolutely love to get a Lucic type, but that's not gonna happen, but there's a lot of big wingers who could be had for a reasonable price. |

I don't see it that way at all!
I can't name 5 goalies that were top 10 goalies 3 years ago and will be top 10 goalies in 3 years time.
Rinne, Lundqvist...
And in that six year span, there will probably be 25 different goalies on that "top 10". I don't see goalies as something you can build around any longer. - Morris
Agreed. The era of Brodeur, Roy, Hasek, Belfour , Joseph , 10 not bad goalies and 15 sh1t ones as starters is long over ( for any of you children who don't remember, goalie woes were damn near irreparable in the late 90's). I would say the difference between the Lundqvist and Rinne's of the world and the Emery and Dubnyk's is much less than say Patrick Roy and Steve Shields. |

I'm going to venture to guess you really have no idea what Joensuu's potential is. All we know is he is a bandaid. Not bad hands though and pretty gritty.besides, who else was available as a free agent this past summer or was Mac T supposed to force another team to make a deal for one of our spare parts? |

Anybody who talks like that on the Internet is a tool. Either a full of poop loser with an Internet persona or a high on himself braggart. Either one equals Tool or Douchebag in my books. - Jeropotato
I've had some decent conversations with some of you, but this stuff is not why I came here. I did let some of you get under my skin too much and I lashed out and got a bit personal so I'm just going to go. I only have so many free hours per night to "talk hockey" so I thought I'd lurk on this board a while ago and then I eventually started posting myself. Given my previous experience with the game I thought I'd lend a few insights.
In my daily life, no one speaks to me the way some of you do and I'm just not used to it. In hindsight, I guess I dealt with it poorly. I used to be the one to end the battles on the ice, and now I am the one who ends them in the boardroom, but I realize that this is an entirely different forum. On the internet, I can't reach you physically and I cannot beat you financially so I just get frustrated at the personal comments. People do not treat me this way.
I never meant to brag or make someone else feel that their worth is less than mine.
Have a nice life. Sorry for the disruption. |

No one knows Jonesu's potential yet as it is still early. It just seems that from what we've seen so far, he might not be the right fit for line 1 or 2.
We don't know what other teams are asking for their big wingers. My point is that guys like Ward and Brouwer could be traded for less than someone like Lucic, Bickell or Burns. i'd favour trading a Yak or Ebs for a top 4 D plus a big winger like those I've mentioned. |

Ok then why not just keep Hemsky? I still think he's good enough for a top 6 winger spot. - Jeropotato
The idea is to build a team that will be a contender for years, not just one or two years. Hemsky is older; if we can move him for multiple assets this year, it will help us out in the long run. I would rather have Yak and Ebs for a few more years instead of Hemsky for the rest of this season. Do you really think Hemsky will re-sign with the Oilers after what they put him through over the summer? |

Hemsky's a better possession player than the visible amount of giveaways would dictate, and he's one of the best on the team on D zone exits and O Zone entries. Statistically, only Hall drives possession better.
As someone on twitter pointed out, this time next year Kulemin-Grabovski-Hemsky could be a line somewhere that has 29 other GMs kicking themselves. |

We tried for Ward, they wanted too much. Brouwer is not available. Bickell just re-upped, Burns is pretty untouchable in SJ and Lucic, well I don't even need to go there.
These guys are not even close to as easy to get as you think. MacT tried for a lot of these guys before settling on Perron. |

There will come a point where mathematically it'll become incredibly unlikely we climb out of the top 10.
This site suggests there's less than a 1% chance we'll finish higher than 11th in the conference! http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL.html
I think other teams can safely value our pick as AT LEAST a top 10 pick, which means even at present it holds a lot of trade value. - Morris
So we could get a Schneider from the East? |

You were all saying about them not being able to cycle?
And I've said a million times....Potter is by far the best Oilers D shot.
Just wish he was a little better at other things.... |

As a team, they struggle on the cycle, but I don't think anyone has ever said the Hall- Nuge- Eberle line can't cycle. That's always been their strength. |

I never suggested getting players like these would be easy. Let's forget Burns, Bickell & Lucic---they'd cost too much even if teams would let them go.
We don't know what the Oil offered for Ward or any others. But with MacT saying the Oil have a core 8 disturbs me. You have to give quality to get it.
So, if Yak or Ebs was available, I'm sure we could get a 3-4 D plus a big winger, at least. Players like Maroon, King, Clifford, Boyle, Pyatt, Ashton, Kulemin, Chimera & Brouwer, to name a few, could be had if we're willing to release some of the core.
How about getting some veteran leadership from guys like Morrow and Hartnell? Just sayin' there's guys out there who would go to war for us, but we gotta give something to get pieces we need to get a better mix of assets. |

8 guys is way excessive.
hall, nuge, ebs, Schultz, and yaks should be limit.
but with such a terrible defence, I assume he adds petry. and I can live with that. but everyone else are just pieces that we should feel can be moved to improve our team |

It would take a HUGE overpayment to pry Lucic out of Boston, it wouldn't be worth it for Edmonton. The conversation would start and end with Hall, would need a LW to replace Lucic. |
