I did feel like saying last night.....can we just get better at passes where we are looking at the target before we start making more no look passes? - shekkie
I agree.
I'd also like a moratorium on the risky cross ice passes in the offensive through 3 guys. |

What would be a fair contract for Mason, in your opinion? - johndewar
He's an RFA. Let's go 1 year, $2.5 million. |

He took his 1-year, $1.5M as basically a tryout after 4 terrible season in Columbus. I don't think he'll take another 1-year deal, especially not at that number. |

Well then I hope you've enjoyed your 1+ season of Steve Mason because, if he keeps this play up, he'll get it. - jmatchett383
I keep thinking the same thing. I do believe we will resign him but every game that passes the price continues to go up. That save at end of 2nd was prime example of sAves we have been drooling for. Get this guy signed as soon as possible. Some one posted something the other day about he csnt be resigned until Jan 1 ? Idk why that would be but regardless |

If he wants a multi-year deal, it's going to have to be at a reasonable cost.
I wouldn't go over $3 million/year. |

I'm happy they turned down the gain on that girl Sigourney. That girl needed to have her jaw wired shut. Too damn perky and high-picthed for me.
More than the volume, I hate how every stoppage is trying to sell you something (and during the play, on the sides of the jumbotron are ads for the 47 Store). I went to Carolina and Nashville for games and it was all about hockey and the team, not making a buck. I mean, it's understandable since Carolina and Nashville are long-standing franchises who are among the top earners in the NHL, unlike this fledgling Philadelphia club that takes a huge financial loss every year. - jmatchett383
that's my other chief complaint, which i've also mentioned here may times. if i want a (frank)ing sweatshirt i know where to find one, thanks. same for tickets. take your santa sack and shove up it your chimney. seriously. excuse me, i need to grab an $11 can of domestic beer. i'm surprised they haven't installed pay toilets yet. need to cash in on the beer going in as well as out. they have water/sewage costs ya' know. |

I think $3M is the lowest, and he'll want 3 years I'd think. If he doesn't get it here, he'll get it somewhere else, and we'll be back to bargain shopping. |

If you sign a one-year deal, you can't re-up until Jan. 1 of the following calendar year. |

Yeah, but the shirts in their stores are "47 Store" exclusives, and only cost 3X as much as other ones. And those Santa Sacks always come with autographed merchandise. Sure you could get cheaper tickets, but they don't come with an Adam Hall autographed puck (my buddy actually got a Lasse Kukkonen one when his mom bought him one). |

So we're going with a tandem on Emery and Yann Danis (or similar bargain) next year? Spectacular. Let's let go of the one guy that has actually performed like a legit starter in net for the first time in 11 years. |

It's a better option, imo, than overpaying a guy based on a small sample of games played. This where teams often make their worst decisions. |

All in all I was pretty happy with last nights game. Some observations:
The Good stuff:
Mason was fantastic yet again. I've seen enough, I'm sold on this kid and would have no problem signing him to a 3 year, 10-12 million deal.
I really liked that they woke up after the long review/delay and put Ottawa away.
Voracek and Simmonds were flying all night.
Kimmo Timonen finally looked like Kimmo Timonen.
Sean Couturier had his usually solid game and it was great to see him finally score
Adam Hall's work on faceoffs was dominant.
The Bad stuff:
Way too many penalties, yes some of the calls were BS, but they need to be more disciplined.
Didn't like the fact that they sat back after taking a 2-0 lead. They need to develop a better killer instinct and put teams away
Every time Streit handles the puck at the point, I get nervous. He needs to be more careful.
Now lets go on and beat Buffalo and the Isles!

He doesn't exactly have all the options in the world. He's an RFA after this season. |

I'm basing it on his contract for this year, his RFA status, and his play this year.
He's due for a raise, but not a mammoth one. |

Sure he does. He's under no obligation to play if he doesn't think he's being fairly compensated. I think he'll want a deal similar to Halak's deal. It's the best comparison I could think of. This is his tryout year for a bigger deal, basically. So far, he's passing with flying colors. |

Fair enough.
His RFA status is going to restrict his options and might give the Flyers more of a peek at a reasonable number for another year.

Maybe he gets more of a bridge deal because of his RFA status?

You think he'd literally sit the year out rather than take a more modest raise on a second one year contract? I don't. He doesn't have many options. He can take the best offer his agent can get from the Flyers, he can sit out in hopes of a better deal, or he can sign an offer sheet. Not a lot of options. |

Kadri was more than willing to because Toronto kept low-balling him. He wouldn't be the first.
I'd just rather the Flyers not f around with ticky tap dances and just pay the man enough to keep him happy for a few years (as long as he keeps up this play). Hell, the guy's played at a Vezina-worthy level given his performance and the hands he's been dealt so far. Put his play on a team that's been playing food defense all year and he'd be getting serious Vezina talk. |

It's funny you mention Kadri, because he held out and didn't get what he wanted. Toronto said they would split the small cap space they had between him and Franson. Untimately, Toronto got their way, because they're RFAs. |

Well, if the Flyers are confident stringing him along until the final days of training camp with an unresolved situation in goal, then that's fine. I'd rather not have that issue since we FINALLY have a goalie who appears he could be the real deal. |
