I thought it was too. But the last replay I saw it looked like Grossmans right leg was angled out over the goal line while his right skate was clearly in the net. Looked to me like the puck hit his above his skate and came straight down on the goal line.
But, good thing it wasn't ruled a goal initially ' cause it never would have been over turned. - Briere
the puck lands on the red line, i don't understand how so many people are so sure it was somehow in |

I think he's got the tools to be good onit he PK but like anything, there will be some learning curve...I like his speed/quickness and tenacity...just has to refine his tactics/positioning and I think he'll be a good PKer. - exlund
Remains to be seen. I hope he's able to harness his aggressiveness to make it work and actually add value to the team as a player.
Just skeptical. |

Once again, you're looking at this too narrowly. Look at the team in front of him. Look at his previous years. He's a solid goaltender.
Dubnyk would be a great buy-low guy for someone next season. - bradleyc4
I'm (frank)ing sick and tired of this team doing the bargain hunting. Ever think that maybe there's a reason guys like Yann Danis, Brian Boucher, Michael Leighton, etc. come at cheap deals? It's because they're not NHL starters. Yet the Flyers continually pay for them and expect them to be starters.
We had a solid goalie in Bobrovsky and got rid of him (he wouldn't have won a Vezina/gotten $6M here). Now we have another young goalie who's looking like he could be the real deal, and we're willing to throw him away if he wants to be fairly compensated while we had out oulandishly high value deals to other players with 1 good year (JvR, Simmonds, Giroux, Richards). Sorry, I'm not on board. |

No, he'll want NHL goalie money. |

Better than doing the same bargain shopping idea we've been doing since the Cechmanek days or giving a 9-year extension to a 31-year-old UFA. I just don't want to lose the guy who looks like he may actually be a legit NHL starter after 2+ years of service. - jmatchett383
I just don't think it's a guarantee that Mason is this stone cold lock for a bona fide NHL starter from now on. I mean, I'm with you in being really optimistic about him and hoping he can stick around and keep being the guy. But it's still definitely a small sample size, and his resume also includes a few years of mediocre to terrible play before coming here. I'd like to see how the rest of this season plays out, and I'd also like to see a second deal (with a modest yet well earned raise for Mase) to let him further solidify this redemption narrative. |

Would you be okay with 3 years, $4M? - jmatchett383
yes please |
|
|
|
Here's what I'm thinking. Maybe mason should get like a 6/24 mil deal. Little overpay for rfa little underpay for ufa years. Locks our starting goalie goalie up. Stolarz should be our back up in 3 to 4 years. Also gives us a couple years to see stolarz at NHL level without starter pressure. If stolarz is better goalie after 6 years he can take over. If not mason still only 31 or 32 with a few years left in him and still time to make other plans for future. |

Which deals in particular are you looking at that so heavily outweigh those two, that they're the exception? - BulliesPhan87
Richards, Carter, Lupul, JvR, Coburn? |

But the issue I have with the one-year deal is what happens when Edmonton or Calgary throws $5M for 5 years at him after he's had (hopefully) 2 good years in Philly? You're not gonna match that (can't, with the cap), and now you've lost your 2nd good, young goalie in 3 years. I'm not saying give him a 7-year, $30M deal. But I think a 3-year, $12M deal is fair for him. |

Just wait till we roll into next season with Jeremy Duchesne and Johan Backlund splitting time for a combined $7. Don't wanna overpay. Maybe we can sign Antero Nittymaki's good hip while we're at it for some deli meats. |

You're already talking like the rest of Mason's season will be at a .930% clip, and that he'll be just as good in 2014-15, when *very few* goalies have been able to sustain that kind of level for a whole season, much less multiple seasons. |

I said if he continues to play this way. That was the preface for the discussion.
I'm not saying he's an elite goalie, which is why I'm not saying to pay him for 4+ years over $4M per. I'm just saying, let's not be kicking ourselves is he continues to play well and ends up walking for nothing after next year. Give him market value and buy a few UFA years. |

Fun new Brad Marsh blog on the front page about his favorite old-school home/away arenas. I totally agree with him about the deafening and obtrusive volume of the sound systems at today's arenas. - bmeltzer
Me too. Although it has been better lately at the WFC. At least it hasn't been a volume so high it was painful. (Early on the new guy next to me, Vito--really--had to put his fingers in his ears because it was so loud. But not lately.) |

Maybe I am. But a one-year deal is a terrible idea. Because, after that deal, if he doesn't feel he's being compensated fairly, he's welcome to walk out the door for the best offer 30 teams will give him. I'd rather lock him up and buy a few of those UFA years. It's the same thing as Halak/Pavelec basically, and those extensions were straight off ELCs. - jmatchett383
Plus the cap is supposed to go up. I'm willing to invest more in a goaltender who has played very good consistent hockey on a team that had an awful start. I'm fine waiting to see if it continues through the middle of the season, but I actually think Mason is being under valued, honestly |

Guys like Pitkanen, Kronwall and Hamhuis, who are #1's for their teams, have similar cap-hits.
He's overpaid... maybe not grossly, but he is. |
