The Flyers have not yielded a single even strength goal in the last five games, and just one in the last six.

I had a buffalo feed and their announcers were trashing Emery. Saying he had lousy rebound control and that the sabers should be able to get a lot more by him. Whatever...Razor has looked good in most of his games. - Lexington Flyer
Yeah Rob Ray said that. That's like Miley Cyrus breaking down the hip hop crew DITC from the 1990s. |

We're seeing what the Flyers can do with solid team D and goal support. They still have some breakdowns in discipline, but that can be addressed.

I also think they're still battling a little bit with finishing offensive opportunities. |

I really wish NHL.com and PhiladelphiaFlyers.com would show all of Downie's points on the stats list and not just the points he has as a Flyer this season. |

I don't know what it is about Downie. He is just good at making "that" play that seems small, but turns out big. |

Third line was awesome
Couts was a beast
G was a little too fancy, just want him to keep shooting
I don't like how Berube puts a different PP unit out for the 5v 3,
It breaks up any continuity they have going on the PP

Tonight's game was encouraging for many reasons. The fact that they responded to being down early, kept at it and ultimately imposed their will on a lesser team is a good sign for this team and showed they can win games they should win and avoid being trapped.
The secondary scoring coming from the middle six is huge. Downie really showed the value he adds in battling and getting to loose pucks and passing to players in good scoring position. Read certainly didn't waste the opportunities. I thought Couturier was very impressive tonight. For the first time in a long time he played with a lot confidence and effectiveness in offensive zone. He probably skated the best I've ever seen him skate in a Flyer uniform and was as strong along the boards as I've seen him...and he brought his usual game on the defensive end. I had been concerned that he may be too much of a passenger on that line, but tonight he showed he can contribute and played like a very good two-way center. At 20 yrs old, I can't expect him to bring that A game every night, but it's certainly encouraging to see him show some spark in the offensive zone. The top line continues to be kind of disjointed..Hartnell is the weak link but G and JV didn't exactly shine either...Simmer continues to fly out there....I liked his backchecking.
Vinny from that right circle is a great option to have out there...his goal was a beaut.
Defensively, Grossmann had that scary turnover but otherwise did his usual Yeoman's work out there. Gusty was active at times and added some good mobility and puck movement. Streit was for sure better than last game and contributed, but he's still not quite right...I'm giving him some time though, still think he has more to give at both ends. Coby/Timonen played some tough minutes and pulled a load. 4th line did their job..didn't mind Rosehill's play for the most part, he has some wheels and isn't devoid of hockey sense. RayZor was solid in net and together with Mase give the Flyers lots of confidence in net.
While I still think the team is a couple years away from contention, with the encouraging things we're seeing now, there's no reason to believe that they can't make the playoffs, especially with the parity in the division/conference...it's still relatively early and Flyers still have room to improve upon their already good play as of late. There will likely be some setbacks along the way but I am glad to be watching some good hockey for a change and I'm looking forward to see how far this team can take it. |

Your Couturier analysis is dead on. When he asserted himself, it was fun to watch.

I think coaches change up the PP for two man advantages all the time. My issue is Vincent Lecavalier being on the second unit. It's weird having our second best offensive threat separated from our first offensive threat. |

I'm just being nit picky, but I thought the two units were developing some good chemistry, and throwing a different group out on the 2 man advantage worked against them. Overall I'm real pleased the way Berube has them playing.
The 2 PP sucked last season.
Vinny on the 2nd unit makes it a legit threat to score. |
