Yeah, probably.
But Zubie's played over 1100 NHL games and has over 500-some points.
I think he's made himself a decent career for a guy who never played Major Junior. - johndewar
Believe it or not, he's actually the #3-ranked points leader from that draft... only behind Briere and Kaberle, both who were chosen well after him. Not a bad pick at all... they just didn't have enough patience with him. |

Besides Huberdeau there was another young forward on Florida that played very well in the games against the Flyers last season.
Was it Shore?
What happened with that guy, traded or sent down?
He looked great in the few Florida games I watched last year, thought he would be a part of their rebuild. |

Sent down. He lost his roster spot to Barkov, Boyes and Bjugstad. I'm sure when Scottie Upshall gets hurt again, Shore will be back in the NHL. |

I liked Zubrus.
And they got Mark Recchi for him, who was quite productive here. |

I despised the way that Neilson handled Zubrus. Buried him, spotted him in bad situations and seemed to never be willing to put any kind of faith in him. |

I just remember thinking that Zubrus was going to be good when he grew into himself, physically.
And it's not like they got back a bag of pucks for him. Mark Recchi was good here in that second Flyers stint. |

Reecchi was very good for the Flyers, in both stints.
I forget the exact number, but Neilson scratched Zubrus like 15 games in a row or something, right before that deal. |

And he did grow quite a bit, I think he was 6'2"ish then and is now 6'5".
I just remember a faceoff early in game 1 of the Finals against Detroit. They came to the dot, the place was rocking, and Eric turned to Zubie and said "Just calm down." Being an 18-year-old in the Finals was a bit wild for him, I'm guessing. |

Wow didn't even realize there are 6 outdoor games this year and the rangers play in two. Guess it's only a matter of time before very team plays one outdoor game a season. |

They're seeing the Classic as a national game and the others not on Jan 1 as regional showcases. I can dig it. I won't go to any, I don't think. but it spreads the fun. Originally I thought it would dilute things, but as long as the Classic has Jan 1 to itself, it works for me. |

Amazingly enough, the Penguins are playing in one of the 6. Similarly amazingly enough, the Coyotes, Panthers, and Hurricanes are not in any of them. |

I don't have a strong opinion one way or the other. I do know if like to see a like to see every team to get a chance before teams get 2-3 appearances. Even if they need to play it at a neutral location to make it possible. |

Eh, it's too much. They can call it whatever they want, but it's still an outdoor hockey game. If they had one outdoor game every day, but only called the one on January 1st "The Winter Classic," it's not as special. I understand that 6 is a far cry from 100+, but still, it was that ONE GAME A YEAR that was cool (2, if they needed to cater to the Canadians).
I've been to both of the Flyers' Winter Classics, and unless they do Flyers vs. Penguins at Penn State, I'm not going to shell out $250 to go sit outside in the cold for 5 hours. Honestly, when they had the one at CBP, the Alumni Game was a lot more fun. |

That's crazy when you think about it.
I doubt Zubrus had any relevant hockey experience in his past to compare to that.
He didn't play major junior in Canada and get Memorial Cup experience and wasn't part of any big European feeder system and almost certainly didn't play on a big stage, internationally at that point. |

we went down to tailgate the Rangers/Flyers classic a couple years ago...we ended up getting SIX FREE TICKETS (good ones!) when we walked past the stadium from some dude on our way to the broadstreet line. we were NOT dressed to stay the whole time, but it was pretty amazing. a goal on that penalty shot would have made it magical. i dig the outdoor hockey games. |

+1
way to take a special event that even non-hockey fans watched and turn it into a diluted product. |
