No counter argument whatsoever, just a "you're wrong" eh? Prove me wrong then. Because until then, the goaltending is the goat. I'm not sitting here suggesting that all the losses are pinned on the goalie, but the MAIN, most concerning issue with this team, right now, is goaltending.

A number of us have addressed this in length over the past 4 or 5 pages. Go back and read what everyone has to say before trying to bring the same thing up again.

Speak the truth brother.

And now it just feels like *clink* cheers - Jamieson or a smokey rum on ice, feet up.

If you ever got to PEI, go to the Island Distillery store on the waterfront in Charlottetown, near the Cow's store. Get the Merchantman Rum. It's the best thing ever. It's expensive, for a small bottle, but the flavour is outstanding.

They also make blueberry vodka and two other liquors, one scotch and one whiskey maybe?

Sounds great, if I ever go, I will.

I've really come to liking a lot more of the above in the last couple years.

Rum for me, it's Mount Gay - Extra Old. Not the Standard or Gold by them. EXTRA OLD. $45.00 a bottle in Toronto. Kind of expensive yes, but so good, especially in the summer.

Edit: I'm a snob about that rum. If someone asks for some they're not allowed to mix coke with it. Nope. That's offensive. Fukk off.

That's me with the PEI rum. It's just straight up.

I'm loving this new Lamb's Black with the pirate on it. It's so damn smooth. The best rum i've ever had was by Havana Club, it's been discontinued for 3 years and I had it at an actual rum bar over in Cardiff, Wales. I found one LCBO that was carrying it, but was charging $80 for a bottle, and it was like an hour-long drive from where i was living, so I cut my losses lol

I usually end up drinking heavier when watching the oilers play.

It's cheaper to fly to Europe and go on a holiday then go to PEI, so not (frank)ing likely for this guy.

A rum bar in Wales? What'll they thinkuvnext.

Yeah, I've heard good things about some of those older Havana rums. I'll try one soon. Sometimes it's the age but I find it's obviously the brand too.
I tried a 12 year old rum by El Dorado or something. Gahbage. Too sweet, just seemed like a bad blend.

I'd like to know how you would compare the Mount Gay Extra Old to the higher end Havana ones. It can be hard to find though. Pretty small still/ outfit in Barbados from what I understand.

Basically I need to move to Barbados and Wales.

How does Toronto move Phaneuf for that though? They are a playoff team right now with expectations to win the cup(you know because they had the stanley cup champs on the ropes), I just can't see them making their team that much worse by doing this.

That and they have the worse SA in the league, not sure he is that good with that stat.

- Lahey

I know this is you trying to take a shot at me, pretty stupid comment imo. There's a reason why STL is always a the top of the league for shots against per game. You're suggesting that Phaneuf alone is responsible for Toronto having the most shots against. Funny how they have the most shots against but are still at 14-9-2, Kessel also has the most turn overs in the league, wonder how they're doing so well? Oh yea, goaltending

I agree but just wait til there goalies stop standing on there heads, Toronto could easily miss the playoffs. Were only 25 games in wait til game 60 I bet Toronto isn't in a playoff spot

Hey you're the one that questioned me for thinking we have some of the worse defense in the league and your defense was SA.

So you make a statement about one specific defenseman on a team that does horribly in the shots against category instead of the whole defensive team? and that makes perfect sense to you?

TIL limiting shots against does not say anything at all about your defense whatsoever.

I was down in barbados at the Mount Gay distillery and had some of that Extra Old. It was insanely good. But yeah, ritzy stuff.

The Girlfriend doesn't drink much Rum, so we can pretty much only agree on shelling out for Vodka.

Amazing that TSN ranks Jultz #18 in all of the league for dmen...
- saskoil21

how is this possible?

was it ranked only on offensive capabilities? this seems to be the trend for the Norris trophy as well.

if theyre so gung ho on awarding defensive points, make a new trophy and give the leader in points that like they do the art ross.

subban is great player and has made a firm believer outta me, but no way he gets my vote last year over suter.
neither does saad or Gallagher get my vote for ROY over brodin

Gallagher is good. He should have be no where near 2nd in Calder voting last year.

I have no idea how a guy who plays no PK time, barely hits, has the highest Off Zone Start along with his equally sheltered linemates and is middle/bottom of the pack in Corsi gets lauded as this amazing two-way tough winger. Wait, I do: He's 5'9' 170 lbs. If he was 6'0", 200lbs. and played the exact same game he'd get mentioned much much less.

EDIT: I misread, his corsi is good. But I'd still say he's utterly overrated compared to the likes of guys like Brodin.

Dood. Nice. Have a friend getting married in Barbados this April and I think I'm going. Looking forward to bottles of Extra Old.

I hear you, sometimes tough to shell out for it.

I don't like this Vodka compromise one bit Morris.

Don't mind vodka actually. On occasions I've been known to knock back a few martinis

Yeah I gathered, I'm just hopped up on rum time.

Martini's are great - I gotta be careful with those, I'm a lightweight when it comes to dry martinis. It's just so much alcohol.

For the last time people, Dubey is brutal. He will never be an elite goalie, end of the story, he has NEVER bailed us out, you think he could do it in play-offs? NEVER.
And im looking forward to hearing about stats, those dont win us or lose us any games. Dubey and his lack of performance has costed us 9 or 10 points.

Wrong. This year alone yes he gifted a few points away but he definitely stole us a few back. We had no business winning in Ottawa for example.

Get over it. He's playing much better.

I agree that Dubnyk had a chance on almost every one of those plays, however there is one glaring problem that resulted in each and every goal that wasn't Dubnyk: piss poor defense by the Oilers. Your goalie HAS to come up with a big save every once in a while, but when your defense is this bad you're going to let in a lot of goals.

Goal 1
The 1st goal Yakupov botches the simplest of plays that results in a Toews breakaway. Sure Dubnyk looked silly getting deked out of his pants, but lets be fair: Dubnyk should never have even faced a breakaway. Blame has to go to Yakupov. It was a simple handling of the puck that he blew.

Goal 2
On the 2nd goal the Oilers defense just let Shaw sit open behind them waiting for a shot/rebound. No one even tries to pick him up until the puck is past them off the goalies pads and on his stick. Then suddenly 3 Oilers defenders all bunch up on him like baffoons leaving Toews and Kane unmanned to do as they wish.

Goal 3
3rd goal goes off the defenseman Potter and in. Fluke goal get over it.

Goal 4
4th goal is a 3-on-1 which the defensive coverage apparently broke down again and allowed. To make things even better the sole defender winds up on his face trying to block the shooter/puck carrier rather than actually picking up the pass and letting the goalie take the puck carrier which is standard text book defense.

Goal 5
On the 5th goal on Bryz there's once again an odd man break. Once again the sole defender winds up on his face + stomach trying to block the pass. He luckily gets a piece of it, but there's still 2 Chicago fwds still on their feet able to make a play. Bryz pokes it away while the Oilers "defense" literally just watches as the Blackhawks skate past them and get the puck. Bryz makes the save on the initial shot, but again the Oilers just watch as the Hawks pick up the loose puck on the boards. No one really pressures the shooter and it results in a tipped in goal again by Shaw left completely wide open and unmanned alone in front AGAIN.

These goals were the result of bad defensive break downs not bad goals by your goaltender.

Hell look at this screen shot when Bryz made that big glove save in the 2nd period. The Oilers are full strength and literally defending NO ONE.

Two Hawks alone in front on either side of the goalie. Two Hawks left alone and unmanned on the boards. Meanwhile all the Oilers are looking at the shooter at the point and then at the shot going in. No one picking up a man ANYWHERE.

I understand the frustration with Dubnyk. He hasn't played well at all this season. That said though, the Oilers defense is awful and I mean AWFUL. The fact that you're even leaning toward blaming Dubnyk on the 4th goal is crazy. His defense a) gave up a 3-on-1 and b) decided "face down; ass up" is the best means to play defense which resulted in a tap in goal. Sorry but that's ridiculous to blame on your goalie.

Again I understand the frustration. I'm a Flyers fan. Been there with both goaltending + defense. Hell we're still there, but the goaltending has been good while the defense is still in the works. However as much as it infuriates you when the announcers say a goalie "didn't have a chance" it equally infuriates me when fans of the game can't identify how piss poor a defense is and want to purely shoulder it on the goaltender. Until the Oilers improve the defense you can continue expect similar results even if Ryan Miller or "whatever goalie is hot at the moment" is in net. Oilers need to either improve the defense by means of trade or coaching in order to help support the goaltending not sink it.
