LMAO. Is that sarcasm?

Nope, not at all. The media here can be jackals, but Bryz could probably move about relatively unnoticed. He goes out the door anywhere in Edmonton & everybody will recognize him.

Actually it has more to do with the organization liking to make big splashes in free agency, plus a lack of good FA defensemen.

Slow start and not being fully prepared at puck drop is part of the problem. The other problem is they're not as fast as they should be. Hartnell isn't as effective as he used to be because he's usually arriving too late to really make a difference on the forecheck. The more the season drags on the more horrible the Streit signing is looking. He's almost as slow as Timonen and his shot is not as impressive as his price tag dictates. Watching these last 2 games really takes away the confidence I had developed in this team. I'm not sure they will make the playoffs. They're way too predictable. I don't think another NHL team has as many blocked and deflected away looks than the Philadelphia Flyers.

I don't know how anyone else feels, but I'm already feeling the mid season blahs.

The Flyers are in NO way a contender this year, and there is no one or 2 moves that they can make between now and the trade deadline to make them one. If they were a complete disaster like Buffalo, I could at least look forward to a top 3 pick and a full rebuild, instead they will either squeak in to the playoffs as the 3rd place team in the Metro, or just miss, finishing 4-6 or so. Most likely it will leave them with a pick somewhere between 7-15.

Mediocrity sucks, and thats just where they are right now. Meh

I agree to a point, but this franchise doesn't really accept mediocrity. If they miss the playoffs, there will be changes with Homlgren almost definitely getting the axe. Plus some players are creeping into Berube's doghouse it seems and won't be here for long. The next 8 games will be telling with the Preds, Wild, Red Wings, Stars and Blackhawks. These teams are tight checking or fast or both and that's what gives the Flyers fits. I could easily see 2-6 with some big changes after.

Philadelphia has a pretty good hockey fan base here, but the average hockey player playing in Philly can pretty much blend into the woodwork if they wanted to. There are 3 other major sports that play in Philly, so it'd be pretty easy to melt into the woodwork here. Also, there are lots of different places to live in the area, considering the Delaware Valley includes not only Philly and it's surrounding suburbs, but also South Jersey and Northern Delaware.

Edmonton, on the other hand, has 2 things: intemperate weather and the Oilers. They have 1/6th of the population in Edmonton that they have in Philly. In other words, a player on the Oilers would have a much tougher time simply blending in in a place like Edmonton than in a large US metropolitan city like Philly or Boston.

I hope so, but with most teams near the cap this season, I don't think they can really make a major move until the postseason. The problem is that many of the guys I want them to move (Hartnell, Streit for example) have either NMCs, NTCs or contracts that no team is going to want to take on.

Certainly Holmgren will most likely be fired if they miss the playoffs, but no matter what I don't really see any way they can really be a contender until 15-16 at the earliest.
