Lets not fool ourselves... Outside Morin and Hagg... and we dont know how good they will be... they lucked into the rest of those defenseman.
But I was refering to Voracek, Simmonds, Schenn, Couturier, and... Giroux. - youarewrong
Alt, Ghost and Lauridson all have some potential. Even Gus has shown some promise as a potential top 6 guy.
Like I said. I see quantity and not quality. You don't need a stud No.1 d man to win a cup. It's more important to have good balance throughout the lineup. |

It was rumored, but the decision wasn't definite. Homer didn't have the tagging space to sign Carle in season anyway. Once he reached FA, all bets were off as he was signed for much more than any of us were willing to pay. - PhillySportsGuy
Since MJL isnt hear to spout speculation, I will say this... I think Carle and Homer had a deal in place, and had Homer not completely ignored Carle for Suter before Carle was signed, Carle would likely have signed on July 1 in good faith.
IMO if an agent, player, and GM came to an agreement, and the agent backs out because of a new contract, that agent is burning brigdes with that orginization for any future deals for any of his clients. Its not a good thing. IMO it was Homer that burnt the bridge. |

No real point in delving into this because it's purely speculation, but could it be possible that Carle reached FA and realized he could get a lot more and nixed the deal? I find it hard to believe an agent wouldn't advise his client to field all offers before accepting the home town discount. |

I agree with you. Out of our young defenseman I see 1 top pairing guy, 1 second pairing guy, 2 third pairing guys, and some 7th d-men guys. I do think that they lucked into these guys... like Haag dropping so far, Gost playing well above expectations, Alt paning out... ect...
My issue is with the offense. First, by the time these guys are ready to be full time players, the current young crop of forwards will be hitting UFA years or already paid top money. On top of that I am not convinced I see these guys developing into much more then they curently are. May Schenn and Couturier have another gear, but what is thier max. I think Schenn maxes out as a 2nd line winger, and couts maxes out as a 2nd line center. |

I find it harder to believe that an agent would spurn one of the better paying teams and damage a relationship, and make negotiation with all his clients harder, if a deal was agreed to for a few million dollars to 1 client. |

You can't look at it that way. You can't look too far ahead because you don't know what will happen. You don't know who will be a FA or who will develop into a good player or never develop. |

I wouldn't see it as 'spurning.' I would see it as an agent doing his due diligence. I'm a real estate agent and no matter what kind of handshake deal you make, it means nothing until the document is signed by both parties. That's just part of business. I'm sure Carle's agent gave the Flyers the opportunity to match and they declined. |

I find it kind of amusing that people are talking about losing Carle. Before we lost him, many were asking for his head. In addition, we were shocked at how much Tampa paid for him. He can pass the puck, and shoot, but that's about it. He can't clear out players in front of the net, he has average speed, and he can't play D very well. So, how would having Carle now help?
And stop the Big Buff drooling. He can clear the net, and has a shot. but that's it. His plus minus is horrible, he turns over the puck, has a speed problem, and is never in perfect shape. Do we really need this as well?
PK Subban? Really? I don't want him on my team. He can hit, and shoot, but that's it. A trophy winner? Really? He is suppose to be a D man. He is more like a one way forward to me.
Most of the very good or better D-men are locked up, and nobody wants to trade them. So, get over it. We don't have much of a choice right now.
Don't go crazy for a MEGA trade. Don't over pay for an over the hill gang member. Don't sign a guy for 3000 years. You just have to pay the price for letting guys develop. That's it. Simple. Patience. It's nice to make the playoffs on a regular basis, but most successful teams rebuild every now, and again. I don't just want to survive the first couple of rounds. I want the Flyers to win the Cup.
Thanks again. |

Ok, but its a bit different. Imagine that instead of dealing with just a buyer and a seller, your dealing with a company or commercail contractor. If you have a hand shake with them, and you get another buyer at a higher price what would you do? Anger the company or commercial contractor that can throw a lot more business your way, or take the 1 time deal? |

Yea, and who would want Nick Lidstrom, he cant hit, he cant fight, him useless. And the Zdeno Chara... That guy is slow, and cant pass the puck. Come on dude. |

Can we please talk about the elephant in the room?
If the three players on the "first" line where even moderately producing over where they have been so far, a lot of these 2-1, 1-0 losses would be 2-1, 3-2 wins.
As long as Voracek, Hartnell and Giroux are producing like 2mil per players, this team will not win.
That is a 12.75 million dollar line that has done NOTHING for over a quarter of a season. That number jumps up to 17.275 million dollars next season.
Right now that entire line ain't worth 6 million for the lot.
Your best players need to start being your best players. Its a cliche but it's true.
12 goals and 26 assists combined through 27 games just doesn't cut it. - MBFlyerfan
