I just hope albeit futile, that Lukko leaving means the free agent splurging slows down or at least becomes more frugal - JoeRussomanno
More likely, it means one less voice of reason in the room when Snider and Homer start talking spending spree. |

Andreas Nodl, Mika Pyerala, Dennis Telpeko, Jiri Depita I would add to the list. All picked up from Europe, handed an opportunity with the club, all of their games never translated. - Schenn2shine

What do you guys think about Nikitin as a UFA pick up for D?
I'd like Phaneuf but he is going to cost too much. |

Yeah, I have the feeling, being the pretty strict businessman he is, he was the one advising not to do certain deals while *cough* some others in the room tend to overpay and overreact. |

I always got the impression he was the frugal one of the Lukko/Snider combo. Not that anything frugal ever happened. - mayorofangrytown
Man I dont know about all this and whats publicly said.
If you have a little imagination, just string together this teams dramas over the last year including Lavvi's exit and you wonder if this years team knows something is going on upstairs that we dont. Something corporate that will affect hockey operations.
As much as Snider loves his team, is there going to be corporate effect on the teams management/signings etc, especially if they dont make the playoffs 2 years in a row. There is stuff we wont know for years about whats going on.
This team is still a mess of sorts ( not Mez) and their discipline and committment to the "system" is not reliable
I used to love this team and rode an emotional roller coaster throughout many seasons. Its now like watching a car crash over and over or a drunk fall into the gutter over and over .Its Groundhog Day over and over again with their failure to show up.
Same excuses, same mistakes.
They finally get the golaies right and everything else sucks |

Yakupov sounds like the name of a vodka I drank in college that was sold in a plastic bottle (classy!) and you could buy a fifth of it with change you found in the couch cushions. |

Kypreos just said on Hockey Central that the Flyers were waiting to sign Lundqvist at 9 million plus per if he reached free agency and the Rangers blinked and gave him 8.5 for the term he wanted. - mayorofangrytown
Cap suicide. Sign Mason to a 4 or 5 year deal, in the $4+ mil range. Win-win!! |

In my mind, Homer goes to Snider and goes, "I want to buy out Bryzgalov and Briere, and then I want to sign Vinny and Streit". Snider turns to Lukko, and says, "Peter, just make it happen". Lukko sighs, retreats back to his office, and laments how he has to be the one to explain it to the shareholders. |

So we've gone from scapegoating Raffl for the offensive woes while 28-93-19 are slumping to conspiracy theory time with regard to the Luukko resignation. *sigh*

defintely makes it more entertaining when Flyers prospects are involved.
I see Philly born and 2014 draft eligible Tony DeAngelo was invited to team USA. |

Great, that just means more money to throw at Phaneuf and Vanek. - Tomahawk
I'm not in favor of signing either of those guys to 7 year, $50 million contracts. But they are both better at their position than anyone on the Flyers current roster. |

Just like how the rangers were will to sign giroux long term at 7 per. The flyers blinked and locked him up long term for 8.25 per |

I wouldn't take Phaneuf for that money. I watch a lot of TO games too, and I cannot envision him succeeding on our team at all.
People don't realize this, but the reason Mark Streit is struggling is because he is not someone we go to on the PP. On all of his previous teams, Streit was the first or second option on the PP. How many times has he been set-up for shots from the point? Not many at all. I can see the exact same thing happening to a guy like Dion if we were to sign him. |

That sucks... I'm torn over whether fighting should be in the game or not... It is a cheap way to spark a team and boost ratings. - JoeRussomanno
He didn't have to fight. He chose to fight. Take out fighting and the cooke of the game will dish out more concussions than fighting ever has. |

Erm, Streit's constantly getting fed at the point... he's just missed the net more than he's hit it. Don't forget, he also got a look on the top-PP-unit but couldn't stick. He's struggling because he's simply not that good of a hockey player (anymore) -- not because they aren't putting him in a position to succeed.
Phaneuf, for all his flaws, is twice the player that Mark Streit is, on his very worst day. |

Streit hasn't been the PP dynamo many were expecting, thankfully he's not losing races to pucks, or being manhandled. |

The stud prospects in the pipeline are all on the blueline. You got Oliver Ekman-Lauridsen, and Torey Krug clone Shayne Gostisbehere. - PLindbergh31
Now imagine how horrible this team would be had the Richards and Carter trades not happened. Farm system and prospect pool was is even worse piss poor shape then. Subtract Simmonds, Couts, Vorecheck and Schenn and keep R&C and missing slot are filled by Low level free agents or worse overpriced underperforming, capkilling free agents.
Building the farm is a long, tedious process. The D pool is growing and the forward talent is already on the big club, sans Laughton. To me, restocking the young talent was the most important aspect of those trades, not the change in the lockerroom. |
