I think Gelinas still has a lot of room to improve. When he's 25 we'll start to see his full potential. But as of now he still makes quite a few defensive errors, although he is usually good at recovering.

Greene still makes mistakes just like everyone else out there. He just gets the benefit of the doubt because he makes them less then some of the other guys. When you watch Salvador, Volchenkov and Zid I guess it makes guys like Merril Larsson and Gelinas mistakes that much less noticeable.

He is and I never said he wasn't but he would be a number 3 on many teams and who knows if he would even succeed in another system that isn't similar to ours. The Devils system has a way of making guys a lot better then they are or a lot worse then they are. Salvador is a great example and so is Ryder and Brunner.

Todd here is a question for ya. I thought the refs were terrible last night. I normally do not criticize refs but I thought there should have been more penalties called on the Habs. On the game tying goal Elias gets taken down by PK. I felt like there should have definitely been a penalty called on the play. What do you think?

Elias really thought he had a game-winner, then promptly got the poop kicked out of him for the next 6 minutes. And overthought the S.O. Plus a slapshot to the chest earlier in the game. Poor guy.

He also make a lot of unnoticed plays that save goals. I really like him.

What happened?

Awesome blog Todd. I value Volchenkov to an extent because of his physical presence, something sorely lacking on the team. But it's hard to argue with your points. As you said he is a valuable penalty killer, but the Devils have been excellent killing penalties with or without him.

Hopefully Larsson is healthy soon. I thought Larsson and Gelinas were a perfect tandem.
