That is fair, and exactly how I feel. Funny how these threads can act like a crazy game of "telephone" and origianal posts go so far off-course or get misinterperted.

That being said, I would still like to know how Bill feels about Flyers and Dallas swapping defense since each has what the other team needs.

Dallas has Smaller offensive guys.
Philly have bigger defensive guys.

Like Grossmann and a 2nd for Daley or Goglioski?

- youarewrong

Personally, again, I'm not a GoGo fan at all. Still can't believe Dallas made that trade. And i think Grossmann's about as good of a defender as there is. Schenn I would move as a centerpiece for a guy like Daley.

So am I. Didn't their practice facility collpase during it? It was some Cowboys-related building.
- jmatchett383

I'm unaware of any Cowboys structure collapsing during Super Bowl week. This is the incident I'm referring to.

I think they were willing to part w/ Grossmann in the first place because they had Dillon, Oleksiak, Nemeth, Vance, and a few other "beefy" defensive D in the system. Even with Robidas and Daley out, I don't see them wanting to take on Grossmann's deal. They could easily get another SAH shot-blocking D on a cheaper, shorter contract.
- Tomahawk

I could be mistaken but I think Bill said outside of Dillion, Dallas has smaller defense that isnt great defensively.

And IMO Grossmann is a much better player then when he was in Dallas, and I think he is extremely under-rated for what he does, thus being a good value on the cap.

If EDM could only get a couple of fringe prospects back for Ladi Smid, who's a better overall player, nobody's giving up a puck-moving NHL D for Grossmann. SAH D don't command that much trade value... unless you're Luke Schenn.

Dillon 6'3 210
Oleksiak 6'7 250
Connauton 6'2 200
Gonchar 6'2 212
---
Cam Gaunce 6'2 210
Patrik Nemeth 6'3 235
Jyrki Jokipakka 6'3 193
Troy Vance 6'5 205

Robidas ain't big, but he plays big. Daley, Gogo and Elder Benn are the small guys. Their system is a lot like ours... lot of beefy guys with questionable offensive potential... very few high-end puck-movers.

This may be a bit late to thread, but as a 45+ year Flyers fan, here are the 10 teams I hate the most:

1. The Rangers
The team is smug, the fans are worst. From Brad Park to Esposito to Sandstrom to Avery to Sather and Tortorella. I truly hate them

2. The Devils
Scott fn Stevens and the franking trap. Need I say more?

3. Toronto
This team wins 2 in a row and their moronic fans start yapping about dynasties. Really? If that alone is not enough, may I submit Darcy Tucker and Tie Domi?

4. Pittsburgh
Crosby. Malkin and Neal. and the Hulk Hogan moron too!

5, Islanders
They're from NY and they stole the 80 Cup from us. Frank you Leon Stickle!!

6. Buffalo
Barnaby alone would be enough. Add Hasek and Ruff's constant whining puts em over the top

7. Boston
God I used to hate these guys when I was a kid. Cashman, Schmautz, O'Reilly, Wensink, Jonathan; couldn't stand any of them! Now I'm just jealous.

8. St Louis
I still remember the Plager bros and Durbano terrorizing the Flyers in the pre Bullies era. As a little kid, it was the Blues and Bruins I hated the most.

9. Montreal
Having to watch Scotty Bowman reek of arrogance while the Habs just dominated us in the late 70s hurt but it was Claude Lemieux and the 87 club that got em on this list. And lets not forget Chris "cheap shot" Chelios as well!

10. Washington
Dale Hunter alone is enough to get the Caps on the list!

Let's put GoGo aside then, I havent watched enough of him to say either way. I just know he is an offensive puck moving defender that isnt 35+.

I wouldn't sell low on Schenn for someone like Daley. Daley=Coburn, Coburn=Daley. If I'm going to sell low on Schenn it will be for Buff or another top-pairing guy, or young sniper... I wont say his name....

I think Grossmann would be a good move for both teams. We get Daley, who is still good defensively, but can move the puck. Plus there is this kid Laurdsen that might be able to play some 3rd pairing minutes.

Big pieces of ice fell from Jerry World roof during Super Bowl week that injured people. Might be what you were thinking of.

Ice storms are rare here but when they hit, they shut area down. Still planning on going tomorrow though.

I'm with you on Lauridsen. Once that "might be able to" becomes a "can" then I'd be much more on board.

Heck... I remember the 1979 Cotton Bowl with ND and Joe Montana vs. the Houston veer offense. That was the coldest, and worst ice storm Dallas has ever seen.

Just because they are tall does not make then a Physical presence.... see Coburn, Brayden. The fact you put Gonchar on the list is lol.

Dallas has Puck movers.
Gonchar, Daley, Gogliowski, and Bill said Dillion is getting good at it.

I still hate the Rags and Devils more. If the Penguins lost Crosby and Malkin tomorrow, the rivalry would die down significantly, but I'll hate the Rangers and Devils no matter who's on the team.
- jmatchett383

Agreed. It's not about who's on the team. It's where the team is from. Well said.

Sorry, Pittsburgh...

Gonchar and Goligoski haven't been effective, and Daley's hurt. Dillon has potential, but he's not going to be driving play by himself. They don't need Grossmann... they've got their own Lauridsens on the way.

Gonchar's actually a pretty strong guy, btw... he used to lay some monster hits in his Caps days.

Those games the Flyers had against the Caps in the '80s in the Patrick Division are vastly underrated. I'm actually glad to have them back in the division.

They had Scott Stevens, Langway, Gartner, young Larry Murphy, and a collection of forwards who always seemed around the 20 goal mark.

Hope so. Freezing rain has stopped in last hour. But not supposed to get above freezing until Sunday. I'm sure Stars had trouble flying back in from Toronto last night / today.

Goligoski has been a healthy scratch at times. Has to be the first time ever a team traded a power forward for a Dman, and the Dman ends up in the press box.

Those were some great games! Before his shoulders gave out, Tim Kerr used to give the Caps fits. What made it more amazing is that he would score goals even though Rod Langway was usually draped all over him!

Looking at their 1987 roster, the Caps top 4 D at the time was Larry Murphy (who had an 81 pt year that year), Scott Stevens (who had some offensive game back then), Kevin Hatcher (who had a cannon of a shot), and Rod Langway (one of the last SAH defenseman to win the Norris).

I disagree. I think Pittsburgh is a microcosm for hate. I dont know why the entire world doesn't dispise this team.

The team is great with talent. That alone is enough to be angry with jealously. But then the team plays a very dirty game, yet thier ownership is trying to lead the NHL into a "cleaner" game. The ownership, the Fans, and the Players are arogant beyond belief. The players are notorious for dives and whining. It like come on, you team is good enough as it is, do you still have to cheat to win?

On top of that you have the in state rival, the in division rival, the playoff rival.... I just dont know how they dont move up to the top hated team.
