Maybe not, but he is far and away the 1c on Calgary this year, stats or no. - FLflames34
I know that ... I just get tired of the constant bashing ... He is nowhere near the player the flames traded for ... As much as I hated sutter he helped a lot of guys learn to play a more complete game |

Yes the noted two-way demon Matt Stajan lol. If I were Calgary I would turf him as he's a highly average player that can be replaced without much issue and really is just more of a reminder of how much they got screwed for Pha9. - TheTaoOfSemenko
Keep under rating the guy ... He's exactly what the oilers are missing |

Yes he is. My mistake. Some sites list him as a center. |

We have a better version of him in Gordon. Neither should be above 3C level. What the Oilers need, far and away above everything else, is a top pairing dman. A true #1. After that would be a top 6 forward with some real toughness. Stajan addresses neither issue. Not about underrating him. He just is what he is. |

I think your only options are to over pay in a trade or wait for nurse ... I still can't believe he isn't on Canada ... |

Nah not even close. And I actually like Stajan. Good guy. Great with fans and kids. Just a bad contract. He's not what the Oil need in the slightest though.... |

Did he play center in Detroit ? Seems odd they would list him there |

Not a lot really ... He only played center when we were short handed up the middle

I guess I was thinking more of plugging him in 2c and packaging gagner with something else to get a d man ... |

Then if you discount Monahan, Stajan really is your 1C.
...no offence but that aint good. |

Hudler or Monahan? - TheTaoOfSemenko
Hudler isn't a C and Monahan while great is not yet a complete enough player to say he is the best C on the team. Next year I am sure that will change. If Stajan is traded he should get a decent return at the deadline. |

Nope it isn't good. However, Stajan would be a perfect 3C deadline pickup for a contender. And the return may even be a low 1st in a weak draft.
I wish they would keep him, but not at the expense of Backlunds development. |

Arcobello is still better. He's small but mighty. Great on face offs, plays gritty and is playing well.
unfortunately Gags has a NTC and will not be going anywhere. |

Stajan would not be a great fit for Edmonton...I know you weren't suggesting it, but they don't need him. Someone like Washington or Carolina though....maybe even Pitt if there is an injury. |

more goals than a certain first round pick and one less than another - flashfire
he doesnt belong in the same sentence as either of taylor hall nor the nuge.
yaks has played less than a full season so it's pretty sily to compare the two. but yes, he's struggling.
either way, good for stajans goals!! there's a million average two way players that have failed to live up to expectations out there. for cheap. u keep him, we'll keep yakupov |

He is a good player, but Edmonton doesn't need another soft player who can be streaky. In a perfect world he goes on a team with stronger players and plays 14-16m a night as 3C |

for now, boyd gordon is a great 3c. abit overpaid, but he's been great for us. strong defensively, a demon in the dot, and physical. chipped in a few points too.
in a perfect world; gordon's play a ton of pk, takes defensive zone faceoffs and plays 4th line. but for now very happy with him at 3c |
