Mesz is coming off the books as well. - wolfhounds
+1. I also still think they'll be a market for Mez at the deadline. Not going to get much, but a piece is a piece. That's why you try and sign Downy to a reasonable deal. Gives you the ability to trad a forward. Too early for all this though. |

Giroux's salary is $4.25mm more than this year and Read's is $2.72mm more. That's about $900k or so above Timonen's hit, plus a likely $6mm or so increase in the overall salary cap.
The big questions are raises for Mason and a bigger cap hit for Brayden Schenn, who will not have part of his hit deleted with a bonus cushion - Jsaquella
Mason's extension will be very interesting, he's the main reason they are and have achieved a .500 record. |

I feel sorry for Loui Eriksson 2nd time this season an "idiot" went for his head. - puckhead17
Perhaps it's time the NHL does what the OHL does in most of those cases & that's 10 game suspension.
2 or 5 minutes & a game in most cases isn't working. |

I haven't had a good look at the Orpik hit on Eriksson, you think it was borderline? |

I think more than 10 games is warranted, it sounds harsh, but a player is, in most cases, not the same after a headshot & how many careers were ruined because of them?

Also, I think Kimmo has a concussion. I saw a Flyer get hit up against the boards and come away holding his head, but I couldn't tell who it was. But by the body language, I was pretty sure they were hurt, and then some time after that Kimmo was missing in action. |

he was looking back for the puck, granted, he set him self up, but it was predatory.
it reminded me of the Kronwall shot on Voracek a few years ago, same side of the ice |

Well you start at 10 games, you won't jump at more to start. I believe the players also have to sign off on it so some level of compromise is needed. |

Agreed. And we saw with Bill's post a week or so ago how later round defensive picks can turn into Weber's, Subban's, etc. So hoard the picks and hope you strike gold. |

3 yrs at 10 mil I think. 12 at the absolute most if he keeps this play up for the rest of the season. |

Just saw the hit again...definitely borderline.
That was a rough hit. Jake was lucky he didn't get hurt. Same with the car accident as well. If only he had that same luck scoring goals...
That was an odd hit that knocked Orpik out...it didn't look like much. Neal, however, had the worst hit of the game by far. Of all of them, Neal should get the most games. |

Is it Shanahan's decision?
Is there a certain game number that he can't hand out regardless of the hit or situation? |

Neal's a (frank)ing liar, acting like he didn't hit Marchand in the head on purpose. Man up you wussy and admit what you did. |

I said the same thing about Orpik. That hardly looked like anything. Not saying he was embellishing I mean obviously he was pretty seriously injured at the time but it looked like nothing.
Either the ice or Thornton's fist must have hit that "perfect" (in reality, a not so perfect) spot |

No I think it is the GM's or if they have it the competition committee |

3 years $10 million? )or $12?)
If he keeps his current pace I think he can command more, this team is nowhere without him.
I don't know why he would come at a discount, if he does he needs a new agent. |

Which part wasn't that bad?
The slew foot or the 2 punches to the head which knocked Orpik out? - opeth_pa
The slew foot that wasn't even full speed and was more like a trip than anything else? Or the two "punches" that looked like little love taps?
Don't think I saw it in slow motion, but it didn't seem all that bad. Rinaldo's one punch was 10x worse than those 2. Wouldn't surprise me if Orpik faked the entire thing to get a ton of powerplay minutes for the team. I never trust a Penguin. No matter what. F them. |

The current system enables these kinds of hits. Players aren't forced to answer for their hits with the instigator rule. Want to throw a cheap shot? Go ahead, but all 4 refs need to stop jumping in to protect the scum bag who is turtling because they refuse to fight.

Neal is ridiculous, all that talent & he cheap shots the way he does.
Voracek isn't moving his feet enough, the more he struggles the more of a perimeter player he becomes, the thing I cannot comprehend is why he & Giroux are not getting pi$$ed at their collective games, I think it would help if they got a little angry, instead of that mild tame look Voracek has in his eyes when they focus in on him. |

Can't be a random number, or a number he deems harsh. Can't punish a union member severely unless they're ok with it.
The NHLPA shares a great deal of blame in the current state of affairs as well. |
