That hurts , after losing Boychuk the night before.
Those guys are valuable players to Boston.
Neal is going to get two games and they are going to throw the book at Thornton.
One guy is a star and the other a 4th liner.
I hate the way the league doles out its justice.
I'm not equating what they each did, both were awful. - Marc D
And really, that's too bad that game resulted in so many injuries -- I never like to see anyone injured, especially on dirty plays.
I watch a lot of games, and I always want to see the best players.

Wow, must've caught him right between the shin pad and skate top. Talk about a sniper.
It was a nasty game; watch the highlights if you can. At least the B's won. - Raven728
Sounds like -- I saw Bob McKenzie's video report but there was clearly more to it than that. Wow.
Loui Eriksson got absolutely crushed...that could be his second concussion of the year.

How much longer does this go on until a move is made? The D sucked last year. Didn't make a move inseason. Didn't make a move at the draft. Not making a move now. This team doesn't work. I get that they're young and developing. But that doesn't stop you from addressing a dire team need. I don't know how much more of this I can take. One of Hartnell, Simmonds or Downie and whatever picks neccessary need to be put on the block. This team cant afford to wait for free agency and years for Morin, Hagg and Ghost to develop. They need to do a deal similar to the Desjardins deal to be honest but I don't think they have the stones to pull the trigger. |

It wouldn't be a surprise, but they should have enough talent to be better.
I'd really like to see them make a push for a guy like Del Zotto or Rundblad. I think I'd happily trade Luke Schenn to the Rangers tomorrow for MDZ. - Jsaquella
Yup. I think Schenn is a solid, no frills defenseman, but clearly something is missing from this team as it stands. |

I really wonder if there is a deal to be made.
Puck moving D come at a huge premium right now.
After trading Wides and Richards, you really think this team is afraid to make moves?

neal should be made the example. he clearly intends to injure and i hate his guts. - -davies-
It's complete and utter b.s. if Neal gets fewer games than Thornton. His hit on Marchand was much more dangerous. If you punish the result and not the hit, to me that just says you're waiting for something worse to come of one of Neal's cheapshots. |

I thought it was clean, Eriksson had his head down and Orpik hit him square in the chest. Looked like his shoulder caught his chin a little bit, but I think that was because he had his head down. |

They should be able to get a Runblad or Gardiner or MDZ at the very least. I'm not sure what their alternative plan is. When is the last time a big name D man hit FA? Suter had his mind made up so I don't think you can even count that. Is three more years of pretending Coburn can carry a top pairing while guys develop really the plan? |

You kidding? Holmgren pulls of the heist for L. Schenn, then signs Streit to a cap friendly deal.

It was a bang/bang play, but Eriksson never touched the puck...I don't think. But then again, Orpik couldn't know that.
Still, Orpik's hit on Eriksson was worse than what Thornton did to Orpik, as was Neal's hit on Marchand. I think Orpik just got caught in the perfect spot and it knocked him out. Thornton didn't even take his gloves off. Hartnell did the same thing in Detroit the other night. |

Anyone know the ins and outs of Phaneuf's situation in Toronto? If he hits open market after this year, I could see the Flyers throwing him big money. |

Yup. I think Thorton and Neal should get the exact same punishment - the events were tied together, and the intents were both bad. Marchand, however, laid face-down on the ice for a few moments then got up on his own. That's the only difference. |

Seriously?
Orpiks hit was worse than what Thornton did? Watch the replay again. Thornton slewfoots Orpik, whose head hits the ice pretty hard. Then misses with his first punch, bit catches him with his forearm/elbow and then hits him again. It might not look like much, but when your head can't move backwards after taking a hit, you absorb the full force of the punch. If Thornton punches him like that when he's standing, we probably wouldn't be talking about it |

Gardener is intriguing. I haven't seen Rundblad play enough to say about him.
Even though they've traded with NYRs before I have a hard time seeing them making a deal.
I agree completely about the need to upgrade and balance the D.
I just feel certain that they will have to overpay in a trade scenario now.
Also think they won't hesitate to trade if the right deal comes.
I fear them dealing away picks and young players for an older established player the most. Even get a mobile defenseman, they are not a cup contender. I'd rather they keep the picks and Laughton and the prospects. |

If he doesn't re up with the Leafs he will want a long term max deal on the UFA market.

From what I can see, unless you have a different angle than the video above, Orpik's head doesn't hit the ice when he gets taken down. Agreed about the punch to the head to a guy lying on the ice.
Loui Eriksson left the game after Orpik's hit. Almost definitely another concussion for him. |

Jeff oniel on the NHL network called him a classy guy and saidhe'd give Neal the benefit of the doubt on that play.

Must have missed all those cheap elbows the guy throws.
Neal is going to get a game or two at most, Thorton will get 10 or more.
Watch how this goes down. |
