I listened to his post game scrum, and Janssen knew what he was doing on his goal. Janssen said he wouldn't be able to get his stick on the puck, so he did a clean over-exaggaterated stop as a way of knocking the puck in without it being a kicking motion. A smart play from a player who's really matured since his last stint in the NHL.

That is from the devils blog today. It's really amazing how much interpretation there is to this rule and all 3 of these this season we've ended up on the wrong end.

this is definite trouble

this is the situation with how we rely on Girardi and Staal.

It's true, neither one of them is having great years, however, they both can play big minutes, like a starting pitcher in baseball that can eat innings.

Who moves up to play the left side with Stralman tonight? Del Zotto? I actually think he is more capable of providing a 20 minute night than Moore and Falk.

Clearly he changed the direction his foot was going to direct the puck. He even looked down at to make sure he connected. Terrible call from Toronto.
- PoileRulezzzYo

You're allowed to turn your foot to intentionally direct the puck in the net though. You just can't use a kicking motion to do it:

49.2 Goals - Kicking the puck shall be permitted in all zones. A goal cannot be scored by an attacking player who uses a distinct kicking motion to propel the puck into the net. A goal cannot be scored by an attacking player who kicks a puck that deflects into the net off any player, goalkeeper or official.
A puck that deflects into the net off an attacking player’s skate who does not use a distinct kicking motion is a legitimate goal. A puck that is directed into the net by an attacking player’s skate shall be a legitimate goal as long as no distinct kicking motion is evident.

That said, I feel like I've seen that same play called a "kicking motion" plenty of times before last night, so once again it comes down to no consistency. There's too much subjectivity in the rules. Just have it be either legal or illegal for a goal to go in off of a skate and any controversy with plays like this ends.

I heard a month, but either way he's out for a long time. This all started when he decided it would be a good idea to fight in 7-1 game and broke his face. His season up that point was very good. Now it's going down hill quick.

I like how the Rangers think we're all stupid. Obviously Staal has a concussion. But let's just saw it's a neck injury that will be monitored.

Sup boys, so I'm 0-2-1 at MSG this year. Watching this one at home from the couch. Probably the third or fourth I've sat down to watch all year, been so busy with work.

Oh man! Cally gotta shoot that.

Because he plays for one of the NHL's chosen ones. That's why.
