My secret dream is that both Hartnell and Streit lift the Stanley Cup as players on the Philadelphia Flyers. - jmatchett383
If the team won a cup with Streit, would the crowd boo when he lifted it? |

Everyone keeps focusing on these ancillary players.
To me, the main problem with this team right now is the play of Giroux, Voracek, and Hartnell.
If they were even playing average as a group, we would be a winning team.
Giroux is supposed to be the guy, and his upcoming contract says as much. When you are the "guy", it shouldn't matter who you are matched up against. YOU are the one who is supposed to elevate the games of the players you play with, not the other way around. YOU are the one who is supposed to go out there and produce when it counts. I don't care if you are leading the team in points, with this team that is like winning the hundred yard dash at the Special Olympics consolation race.
It is time for Giroux to start producing game winning goals and points. There is no if and or buts. Do it, and do it consistently, or you ARE a fraud making 8.25 million a year for the next 7 years.
Rant over.

8 years. Holmgren was a dummy for extending him before seeing how this season played out. |

Not really. If Giroux had a season like 10-11, he would have gotten the biggest contract in NHL history.
Edit: He should have waited on Hartnell though. |

He only scored 76 points in 10-11. But you likely mean his 93 point 11-12 season. If had scored at that pace this year then he would be worth 8 years, $8.3 million. But he would have to score at 1.5 PPG for the rest of the season so he's not going to get close. |

Ugh. For that amount of money there should be 90 points GUARANTEED, year in a and year out.
This guy we got now isn't even in the top 175 for ES points.
I don't want to hear about his matchups, or his linemates, or anything other than, you want to be paid like an ELITE level player in this league, start producing like one.....and start producing when it matters.
Stop playing like Zherdev. |

He would be worth more than his next deal if he had a 93 point season. He would break the bank. It's irrelevant because he won't be getting 93 points this year. |

Some light researching dates back to the 60s, with the original being:
Q. How many Polacks does it take to change a light bulb?
A. Three—one to hold the light bulb and two (the number varies) to turn the ladder.
Apparently, it was actually started by the Polish. |

He wouldn't have got near Malkin money and Malkin scored 109 points in 75 games in his last full season, so you'll have to define break the bank.
If a player likes Giroux wants the security of a long term deal a year in advance then Homer needs to insist on them taking less money. Otherwise it would be smart to wait until they have continued to keep performing before signing a massive deal, especially when the player is still an RFA. |
