to say they are a average team is to put it lightly...i consider them below mediocre at best..
Avg for team wins and losses this year is
30.46 GP
15.23 W
11.53 L
3.7 OL - PhillaBully
The Flyers are striving for that 15.23rd win... |

Yeah, after watching Bryz and Briere get bought out, Streit show up like Andy Delmore, Pronger out of the game entirely, Vinny injured for the 3rd-time in 30-games, the solution is still throw more star players at the problem?
- Tomahawk
I got to say though, that despite signing big guns in Vinny and Streit, Homer did a grand job of not giving up anything to get them. Other than cap space that is.
Also, we haven't shipped Couts yet! If someone told me that at the end of last season I wouldn't have believed it. |

Im willing to throw out the 7 games before the October 6 day break when Berube was able to really install his system. Since then they are 12-8-3 which is pretty average. |

I think we know exactly what they are: an average NHL team.
They will look good against weak clubs and bad against good clubs on most nights. Barring a rash of major injuries, they will finish with 82-88 points and anywhere from 3rd to 7th in the division. They will most likely miss the playoffs but be close enough to not be true sellers at the deadline and they will most likely pick somewhere between 6th and 14th in the 1st round of the draft.
(sigh) - BiggE
Honestly, the best case scenario for me for the playoffs this year would be for Kimmo to get traded at the TDL and go on to win a cup.

Very frustrating to watch this team lately. I would not want to single antibody out, because the whole team (except for goalies) is out of sync. Because of miss match in speed and skills between the players they seem to be 2 tempos behind on every play- passing, shooting, clearing the zone. This mismatch leads to lack of chemistry and to increased level of frustration on the team.
As a fan, I really do not like the product they put on the ice, but will continue to watch ...and drink myself to sleep after the games.

Weird. Best case for me is the star players wake up and the Flyers win the Cup. |

It wasn't an either/or... they could have improved the team and kept the kids without saddling themselves with more $$$ contracts that carry consequences down the road.
If they had any patience they could have had Tom Gilbert and Jaromir Jagr on 1-year contracts for under the price of Streit alone. Then used the $5M left to bring in another able body on the blueline not named Hal Gill. |

You gotta figure they probably still lose a number of those games though. |

Now you're going to make me cry. I would love to have Jagr here. He has proved Homer wrong. Still some gas left in that tank. Impressive.
And yes, I sadly agree on your points. What I don't get is why Homer got Streit. At his age. And his cap. It hurts. And will for seasons to come. |

Was Bryz ever a star player? I thought he was unproven as one and we just paid him like one. Danny B was great for us for many years, I dont see how you can use that in your argument. Streit isn't a star player, either. At least not on the level of Phaneuf or Weber. Vinny's probably been our best forward, sure he's a little injury prone, I'll give you that. The chances of Weber or Phaneuf suffering a freak career ending injury like Pronger are so impossibly slim that I'm also gonna negate that argument, also considering we got Pronger in his mid 30s and neither of those guys have even hit 30 yet. |

I just want them to make up their minds. If they're gonna go with a full youth movement, then do it a la Pittsburgh/Chicago. None of this half-and-half crap that Calgary and Edmonton have been doing. |

Getting the biggest name available seems like the only thing that matters to Homer as long as he has enough cap-space available. |

If you go into camp with a roster that isn't a Cup winning team, the fans can make the decision whether they want to pay money or not. You do understand the difference between going into rebuild mode and intentionally losing games, don't you? |

true but if the coaching change had been made in the offseason, I think they would have done a bit better than 1-6 |

well 3-4 would have them at 15-12-3 and a playoff spot at this point.
Still not good but not horrible either |
