The Blackhawks are going to skate circles around the Flyers. Literally, they will skate circles without being touched. |

His 35+ and cap hit are as good, if not better, than an ironclad NMC. - Tomahawk
The Homer special, golden parachutes for people who are high risk high dollar signings who are not exempt under the CBA from cap hit retirement.
At least Vinnie L was under 35 . I wish Vinnie was healthy and Streit was LTIR- permanently. Arrrghhh |

Was Bryz ever a star player? I thought he was unproven as one and we just paid him like one. - JAKEw1234
Bryz was a perennial Vezina candidate down in Phoenix.
Danny B was great for us for many years, I dont see how you can use that in your argument. - JAKEw1234
Danny B was good in the PO's for a number of years... but people forget he was signed to be the 95-point player that he was in Buffalo... he never came anywhere close to that in O&B.
Streit isn't a star player, either. At least not on the level of Phaneuf or Weber. - JAKEw1234
Whether he is or not, he's getting paid like one.
Vinny's probably been our best forward, sure he's a little injury prone, I'll give you that. - JAKEw1234
Out of all of Homer's additions, Downie has been hands-down the best.
The chances of Weber or Phaneuf suffering a freak career ending injury like Pronger are so impossibly slim that I'm also gonna negate that argument, also considering we got Pronger in his mid 30s and neither of those guys have even hit 30 yet. - JAKEw1234
Freak injuries can happen to anybody... they just seem to happen to Flyers stars with regularity. Forsberg, Lindros, Primeau, Rathje, Pronger, Gagne, Emery (his first go-around)... that's why you don't want to get caught putting all your eggs in one basket. |

don't forget Lavy, Berube, Voracek, Homer and the ghost of bad trades past! - BiggE
Lavi - 3 games is too small sample size
Berube - Most would agree he's done a decent job righting the ship
Voracek - criticized, but not as much as the others
Homer - We can always blame him
Ghosts of bad trades - Luke Schenn is 4 on the list. |

Getting the biggest name available seems like the only thing that matters to Homer as long as he has enough cap-space available. - Tomahawk
Actually maybe its the only thing that matters to Snider to get names and press releases so he can sell tickets with the hoopla of the signings. Remember the summer press conference with VL, RE and MS ? He should have stopped with the better 2 of those 3 |

I say it's Grabovski's stick.
And Nashville's owners.
And Minnesota's owners.
And Jack Skellington. |

I'm living in a theoretical world of fairies, elves, and a Cup-contending Flyers team. We're raiding a Dwarvish stronghold as "The Bell Center" later on this afternoon. |

Not so much freakish.
Forsberg was a congenital foot defect, Lindros had his head down, Primeau was concussion too, Prongers was freak, Gagne sought out everything but a fait healer for his problems and Emery was freak. |

Streit was absolutely horrid last night. I can't think of one good play he made, besides when he went off on a change.
I was a bit of an optimist about Streit even with his play so far this season, but after seeing firsthand how brutal he is, his deal really stings. He was alright in the first game up here, but the whole team looked like globetrotters in that 5-0 win. The bad pinches creating 2-1s, the poor clearing attempts,, the turnovers, skating like he was in molasses.... brutal. |

I think the main point is that their careers ended very prematurely. Could you imagine if Crosby and Malkin only had a few good years left? |

-Bryz was nominated for 1 vezina.
-I don't think they expected Briere to be a perennial 95 point scorer when hey signed him.
-Downie's been great, you're right.
-You're right about that. I just don't think a lot of injuries to our star players is a good reason to just stop getting star players. That seems defeatist, to me.

No problem. The NHL would be along shortly to gift Pittsburgh with another highly skilled hockey player. |

The thing that bothers me most is that he makes bad decisions. He's a veteran player and should be able to anticipate things better or be in better position.
Kimmo may have lost a lot, but he is still a smart player who positions himself well.
What's going to happen to Streit when he really starts losing his physical abilities. He will be a $5M 7th defenseman. |
