Now you're going to make me cry. I would love to have Jagr here. He has proved Homer wrong. Still some gas left in that tank. Impressive.
And yes, I sadly agree on your points. What I don't get is why Homer got Streit. At his age. And his cap. It hurts. And will for seasons to come. - Bearintheforest
The issue was never that he had no gas, it is at crunch time he runs out of gas. Look at his year with Philly and Last year on Boston in the playoffs. He was a total non factor because he was out of gas. Giroux had a great year with Jagr because Jagr was a threat. Voracek and Hartnell are not threats this year. They will chip in once in a while but they are not playing like top line players. Giroux also has to work on his defensive game. Poor back checking at times. |

Need to find ways to build around it. In my opinion here are the players to build around: B. Schenn, Couturier, Giroux, Voracek, Mason - stveshdy
I'm not sure about either Schenn, Voracek or Mason. I want to see how they look over an entire season before making a judgement. Don't you think?
Mason has been a stud for us this far, but has seen some rough patches over the last couple of games. Throw in his 3 years of drought into the equation. I am not ready to define him as a core player. Yet.
Schenn has not impressed me, but I think the potential is there. Will he ever be a top 6 centerman? I don't know, but I honestly don't think so.
Giroux is here to stay, I think.
Funny though that I can not list one D that I would label as a part of our core... |

I think Lauridson and Alt are fine in AHL for now. No sense in bringing them up into this mess. You don't want to kill their confidence.
In hindsight, I would have liked to see the team just go with Gus instead of signing Streit. It's not like Gus is much worse than Streit has been. - PhillySportsGuy
Not sure why Gus doesn't play. Also have no idea why Mez is still on this roster. |

Just wanted to complete it. |

Because he's signed to a contract with them and waiving him makes no sense. |

Yes, if you are shielded. If 3 of your top-6 are Gus/Alt/Lauridsen are expected to play all 82, they're going to face tough competition and get destroyed both on the ice and (possible) mentally. Lauridsen and Alt are refining their games in the AHL, and that's a-okay with me. If they get called up due to a slew of injuries, then I'm okay with that. But I wouldn't slot all 3 of them in as full-timers this year. Remember, this is Alt's first non-collegiate season, and Lauridsen only has 1 pro year under his belt. They're still relative newcomers to pro hockey. - jmatchett383
I'm not against what your saying. The Flyers should give them an opportunity to play in some games. Does it have to be on a consistent basis? Not sure. I thought the Flyers played better at the end of last season once the injuries occurred to the blue line. I just think there talent gets overrated by the GM. |

Agree on Gus... hasn't been great, but who has? He couldn't possibly F-up more than Streit out there.
Mez, on the other hand... he seems to be getting his legs back. |

I believe that Lauridsen and Alt will get into some games. But sadly, the current mix, bad as it may be, gives this team the best shot at winning right now. Now, if March comes around and we're in 12th place 8 points out, then you'll start to see some moves (Grossmann and Timonen are probably is the most likely) and you'll see some call-ups. |

Streit is not a good defenseman and I think everyone knows this. He was suppose to help our areas of weakness but at the cost the Flyers paid I would rather continue to go with what we had. Oh well. |

He's still a young player. Maybe he doesn't turn out to be anything but when looking at this roster he's one of the better young players. I wouldn't be opposed to trading him for the right piece. - stveshdy
I wouldn't call him one of the core pieces though. He hasn't shown me anything special that I'd say is hard to find. Guys like Giroux, Couturier and Voracek have shown me things that you can't easily find. |

I think Mez has looked alright. He seems to be moving better. Just keep him away from Streit. When they're paired together, it's a disaster. |

His strength is his PP prowess, but he seems to give up more chances on the PP than he creates.
The idea of him helping with outlet passes was wishful thinking, but it really hasn't helped at all. |

I tend to disagree with that.
I realize last night's game is fresh in everybody's minds, but have we really forgotten just who was getting abused on Saturday?
All of our defensemen, with the exception of Coburn, are in the same boat: Too slow.
Streit was awful last night. But I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say others are getting the job done in comparison, considering just a few days ago, Dallas was looking like they could name the score and Streit, until he gave up the shorthanded goal, wasn't to blame for the beating we took. |

Do you remember Baby Schenn in the PO's against the Pens? Scoring, hitting, agitating? Young players are only going to show it in flashes... until it all comes together and you wonder why you ever doubted them.
Up until a few weeks ago, Couturier was showing nothing, too. Now he's the toast of the town, apparently. |

So you believe the Flyers have three core pieces?
I don't know who the Flyers consider core guys but they need to identify them and build around them. This team is a middle of the road type. The defensive group not very good and the overall team speed is lacking.
I don't want to bash the organization b/c I support there decisions. However, I have to question the GM. He overrates his talent and always seems to overspend. |

Couturier has had many more flashes than Schenn. (No homo). I always wanted the Flyers to use Schenn at center, but I see him more as a winger now.
I like Schenn a lot and I am not advocating trading him or getting rid of him. I just haven't seen enough good things for me to say he's a core player moving forward. I see him the same way I see Read. I really want to keep him, but not the same way I want to keep G, Voracek and Couturier. |

I view core pieces as guys I think can be the best players on a Stanley Cup caliber team. I don't see Schenn being one of those guys. I see Couturier, Giroux and Voracek being those guys.
The answer to your first question is yes, I see them as having 3 'core' pieces. It's all a matter of opinion of the player and of the word 'core'. |

Baby Schenn and Sean Couturier play different roles on this team and frankly, up until recently, Baby Schenn has had FAR more talented players to play with than Sean Couturier.

I think it's reasonable to ask Brayden Schenn to chip in a goal once in awhile.
It's been 12 games. |
