I would, even at this point in their career rather have Couturier over Carter.
Brayden Schenn however, is a fart in a windstorm compared to Richards. |

Liberty is a pretty scary thing... even as scary as the idea of reading a book every once in awhile.
edit: No, The Fountainhead and O'Reilly Factor for Kids don't count. |

If I had an expectation for Hextall, it would be to take scouting and building up the farm more seriously.
It's probably better now, then when Clarke was the GM, but it's not near what it needs to be. - johndewar
When Holmgren was in Hexy's job under Clarke, they had a nice deep system. Clarke always seemed to grab a pick or two in every trade. |

Man, this board is depressing a full of anger and panic today.
Does anyone at all remember the general offseason consensus of staying the course and going through a rebuild-esque period? Now we're trying to rip the team apart and bring in the quick fixes.
Look, there's no guarantee that our young players will develop well. And if they do develop well, there's no guarantee they'll be healthy. And if they do develop well and stay healthy, there's no guarantee they'll be the players we need. But really, let's please, PLEASE stop trying to trade everyone on the team for everyone in the league. Please? Is that too much to ask? - jmatchett383
I have faith our young players will develop. But please tell me, who in the system has 1st high first line goal scoring potential. Is it enough to build a team around? Because if we're going to rebuild it has to be around something, right? Its NOT going to be by the draft, because we're not going to draft very high. So please tell me how you rebuild a team into a contender without high draft picks?
This team is not bad enough to let us rebuild through the draft. They are mediocre, not horrible and not good. |

I will Fahrenheit 451 you all the way to a Brave New World.
I actually liked The Fountainhead, for the most part, but never took it as a How To book. Call me crazy. |

Could just be me, but I would gladly take back Timonen for one more season if he can take a reduced salary.
A mentor like that is really valuable on defense, and on most nights he is still the team's best, and most complete d-man.
I would rather buy out Streit, and keep Timonen in a greatly reduced role.

Yep, I'd be ok with Timmonen around 2M or so.... Have him play once a week - maybe. Cycle him in more if injuries occur. |

That's a valid criticism. Still, much like his brother, I give him the benefit of the doubt and at least another couple years to continue to develop. |

Its why a guy like Gonchar has been able to stick around in the league.
Timonen, even at this age, is usually better than most of the guys on the back end of this team, on most nights. Also has probably the most complete game.
That's as much of a compliment to Kimmo, as an insult to management. |

At $2mm as a third pair guy playing 15 minutes a night, Timonen would be a great asset AND a great value. |

Speaking of which, would you rather have Timonen for one or two more years playing a reduced role on the team?
Or Streit signed for the next century at his cap hit. Streit was a mistake, but I wonder if the organization is willing to look foolish again, and buy-out another big contract. |

They lack forward speed and d speed. They don't have anyone to put the puck in the net or posses a threat to do that when he has the puck. I like the players but I would try to move vorechek even though he has speed. He is a turnover machine, can't finish, and horrible is his own end. I would take him being bad in his own end if he would score. It would be probably smart to try and just get rid of the older slow players plus vorechek and focus on the future. I would keep 28, 10, 14, 17, 24, 9, 5, 22(maybe), 26. I understand no trade clauses and salary it would be hard to move the players that I wouldn't keep. But if possible try to get as much assests as possible for the future. Try to get skill and speed. Hard task to accomplish buts that's why I'm not a gm lol |

Again, the guy who was on pace for 40+ goals last year. Whether or not he reaches that potential, he has it. I think he can find it again.

Aside from Drew Doughty, exactly what impact players on LA's squad were high (top-5) draft picks? Aside from Seguin, which ones for Boston? It can be done. |

That's a great plan, but the catch is that Kimmo Timonen has to agree to accept 1/3 of his current salary. |

Voracek is a good player, who had to produce when traded from Columbus to stay in this league.
The issue to me is not whether he is a good player. He is. His contract is also fairly reasonable. The concern is the same as it was under the Carter/Richards era.
Are you building your team, and putting too much hope, building a core, around players who simply are best suited to secondary roles?
That's been the biggest issue for years imo. |

The difference there, to me anyhow, is that Brayden Schenn has tangible skills and just has to put it together. Luke Schenn's strengths are his physicality, hitting ability and toughness. Unfortunately, for Luke Schenn to be effective he has to play a much better mental game.
That's what worries me. I see Brayden Schenn's ceiling as a Nate Horton type-crash the net, be physical and score goals. I see Luke Schenn's ceiling as a Dan McGillis type guy, 2nd pair, hitting defenseman. |

I think he'll accept less. He almost retired last season and might still after this one. You'd think he'd take a fairly major pay cut for 1 more year. Depends on what other teams were interested in him. I wouldn't be shocked if his name was bandied about in free agency next year. |
