That's a great plan, but the catch is that Kimmo Timonen has to agree to accept 1/3 of his current salary. - johndewar
Sure, rain on my parade...I think it's 50-50 that Timonen retires anyhow, and that if the Flyers start a "rebuild" I think it's very likely that he's not a Flyer, even if he plays in the NHL |

I would keep him around at around 4.5 million. He is worth that, even at this age and level of play, that has him better than most on the back end of this team.
I think the smarter long term choice is to ship out Streit, and give HIS spot to one of the kids, or an external source.
Instead of giving up the better leader, mentor, and player in Timonen. Who you can keep around on a short contract, instead of the century Streit is signed for. |

He'll take what we tell him.
And while we're at it, we should probably trade a 5th (okay, maybe a 4th) to TB for Stamkos and have them eat his entire salary.
But really, I doubt Kimmo comes back next year. |

That's way more than I'd be willing to give him. Timonen has lost a couple steps. He's not a top pair defenseman any longer, and giving him $4.5mm hurts the chances of adding one via trade or FA |

Liberty is a pretty scary thing... even as scary as the idea of reading a book every once in awhile.
edit: No, The Fountainhead and O'Reilly Factor for Kids don't count. - Tomahawk
What does liberals and liberty have in common? Nothing.
Don't try to pretend that liberals stand for liberty. |

Well, I hold no official office yet...so does that mean I can't be a liberal to you? - jmatchett383
The funny thing is that people actually think there is some difference between Liberal/Conservative, Republican/Democrat.
Same BS, of the rich getting richer, and corporations controlling more than some idiot in office. Wake up.

Liberal voters aren't bad people BTW. They have the best intentions at heart. Its the people in power who use those good intentions to erode our freedoms and gain control over all of us. |

The difference there, to me anyhow, is that Brayden Schenn has tangible skills and just has to put it together. Luke Schenn's strengths are his physicality, hitting ability and toughness. Unfortunately, for Luke Schenn to be effective he has to play a much better mental game.
That's what worries me. I see Brayden Schenn's ceiling as a Nate Horton type-crash the net, be physical and score goals. I see Luke Schenn's ceiling as a Dan McGillis type guy, 2nd pair, hitting defenseman. - Jsaquella
Agreed. Luke sometimes doesn't seem to 'feel' the game, similar to aiming as opposed to throwing the ball. And that, to me, is a sign of not being comfortable with assignments, position, etc.
Still, I'd be ok with the above results, wouldn't you?

I depends on the moves being made of course.
However I think in looking at Streit long term, or Timonen for 1-2 more years.
I take the better player, and mentor in Kimmo.
I think this is a decision that really needs to be looked at. |

Could just be me, but I would gladly take back Timonen for one more season if he can take a reduced salary.
A mentor like that is really valuable on defense, and on most nights he is still the team's best, and most complete d-man.
I would rather buy out Streit, and keep Timonen in a greatly reduced role.
?-Coburn
?-Grossmann
?-Timonen - flyer_nutter
Kimmo and fat Schenn would be a decent third pair next season.

Voracek is a good player, who had to produce when traded from Columbus to stay in this league.
The issue to me is not whether he is a good player. He is. His contract is also fairly reasonable. The concern is the same as it was under the Carter/Richards era.
Are you building your team, and putting too much hope, building a core, around players who simply are best suited to secondary roles?
That's been the biggest issue for years imo. - flyer_nutter
I do agree that I would like to have him in a lesser role but we have no one to fill the first line role, I think to acquire that talent he would be the best return in a trade. Who knows what the flyers could do but you make a good point |

Most of that is true. Ideologically they're miles apart however. Corporations have really exploded with power since Bush.

I'd get rid of both, and get a mentor with a bit more left in the tank than Kimmo has left. I love the guy, but that needle is hovering over the E |

Definitely. I like that idea, and would also have no concern moving Schenn out to give Alt or Lauridsen a spot in there.
Just my thoughts, but I think Guss has shown he gets pushed around in his own end. I don't see a big future. |

No offense or anything. They are all rich boys, who do nothing for the most of us anyway, just ALL cater to the needs of corporations and the mega rich. Wake up. Its all a sham, and has been for a while.

Bad positionally, often blew coverage to go for a big hit, didn't read the play especially well. Had a very good slap shot and a decent first pass.
Hardly an awful player, but nothing special. |

A little bit of both. I liked Niinimaa, and felt he was a better fit for what they needed at the time. McGillis wasn't a bad player, but I remember some of my friends acting as if he was Scott Stevens-LITE. |
