It's fun making fun of the cowboys until you realize the flyers are the cowboys of the nhl

Simmonds has all the signs of a guy they'd sorely regret trading down the road... he's everything you'd ever want in a power forward -- like a modern day Clark Gillies.

i totally agree. we'd regret dealing him. from a production standpoint he's probaby the only one from the richie/carts deals thats exceeded expectations... and he is still young on one hell of a contract.

Another head shot from the Pens...

Not really sure it was a penalty.

Personally, I don't want to see the Flyers (translation: Homer) to make anything but minor moves this year. Perhaps Timo and/or Mezy at the deadline for picks, but not much else.

I don't see the Flyers getting very far this year as currently constructed, so I'd rather leave it in the hands of the next GM (assuming it's Hextall) to decide what direction this club should go in, and that includes bringing in an entirely new coaching staff.

Unfortunately, it's going to be a while to undo several bad moves made that will handcuff the team's refocus.

I think their defensive prospects are still so far away from being impact NHL players that they need to get a good dman somehow before then.

Hawks played a 6 game series with the Bruins in the Finals last year and went through them like poop through a tin horn.

C'mon man!!!! Boston was spent after their previous grueling series' prior to the Cup finals w Chicago. If they played a first round series, I'd probably bet on Boston's team of last year. When you beat up everyone, your own body takes a beating too.

They have some serious systemic issues that one d-man or forward could fix.

The problem is to get a good d-man, you'd have to normally pay through the nose. Teams knowing the Flyers would be dealing from weakness, they'd have to really overpay at this time. There's just been too much of that the last few years for my liking.

edit - contraction issue.

They dont need superstar on D but they need to replicate the Desjardins or Kimmo deals and get a player like that.

An Ehrhoff or Yandle would go a long way at the right price.

Thats very true, but I think we will have lost too many good dmen in Pronger and Timonen this offseason for it to not show on our D. I'm not saying trade the farm for a Weber, I'm saying go after a good FA option like Phaneuf and/or Markov if either of them make it.

They need to make Lecavalier available at the deadline. If he comes back and stays healthy he can be a vital chip at the deadline if the Flyers choose so.

Coots has been playing 23-25 mins a night. He is looking more and more like a long term solution at the #2 center spot. I wasn't and still am not sure if he can be. But it looks more and more likely that he can be a 50-60 pt. 2nd line guy with high shutdown ability. Lecavalier becomes expendable in a trade this year b/c he just doesn't fit in with the youth movement. Trade for a young defensive chip with strong upside or a first rounder

The fact that he's also been one of their best players when healthy might also cause them to decide to keep him.
