The only problem is that the team would be paying $6M per year for retired/traded defenseman. - PhillySportsGuy
You're including Pronger? I don't think the organization is worried about that, and it certainly isn't going to impact the profitability of the club, especially with all the little corporate accounting tricks written into the laws that might allow them to hide or recoup some of that cash.
So long as most of the money doesn't count against the cap, it'll be fine. |

If the Flyers were to trade Kimmo at the trade deadline, what would everyone expect to get for him? (This is assuming he wanted to be traded to a team with a chance of winning a cup) |

I just don't see the upside that would make this group of player anything but playoff pretenders. Good enough to look like Playoff teams, but 1 and done. They lack physicality, and goal scoring. - youarewrong

So were Richards and Carter at age 21 & 22. At age 21 Richards had 10 goals & 32 points in 59 games, while playing top six minutes. The next year he blossomed. Carter similarly blossomed a year later. They showed little more than the flashes that Couturier & Brayden Schenn have shown at that point of their careers.
It's one thing to preach patience, it's another to practice it. You want to trade for Yakupov, what happens if he slumps? Will you be calling for him to be dumped, because he doesn't play good two way hockey? |

Carter's replaceable and I'd argue we're fine without him. Richards is a different story. Still, Richards is also 28. - wolfhounds
I would argue this team needs Carter more then it needs Richards. |

At the absolute most? A late first rounder & middle of the road prospect. Realistically? A couple of second rounders. |

Man, this board is depressing a full of anger and panic today.
Does anyone at all remember the general offseason consensus of staying the course and going through a rebuild-esque period? Now we're trying to rip the team apart and bring in the quick fixes.
Look, there's no guarantee that our young players will develop well. And if they do develop well, there's no guarantee they'll be healthy. And if they do develop well and stay healthy, there's no guarantee they'll be the players we need. But really, let's please, PLEASE stop trying to trade everyone on the team for everyone in the league. Please? Is that too much to ask? |

That depends. Is the team expected to make a deep run in the playoffs? Do they have a banged up blue line? But probably a 2nd or a 3rd. Maybe a prospect? Look what the Pens paid for Morrow. |

2nd and 3rd? Or a defensive prospect and a 3rd?

Not if the Jets were selling Byfuglien. Or if the Leafs couldn't reach an extension with Phaneuf and continue to slide. |

I disagree.
Look this loss sucks a lot, and others have too. But I "look around" in here and I see mutiny.
I'm not gonna join. I'm staying optimistic. Why? Because they play more good hockey than bad. The problem is, when they play bad hockey, it's REALLY bad. But it's only for 10 minutes a game.
If they cut that in half, they could rip off some solid streaks during the season.
And guess what? This division sucks. If they can squeak in....well....we know what can happen in the playoffs, even when a team squeaks in.
Go Flyers. - Giroux_Is_God

Both of those teams are under pressure to make the playoffs. If they're in the hunt, they won't trade either of those guys unless someone knocks their socks off.
Phaneuf is the Leafs minutes leader. They would be waiving the white flag by trading him. |

It would depend heavily on how the Flyers are doing. If they're still scuffling for a spot, I think he'd refuse to waive. But if they were dead in the water, he might agree to a move just to get one more kick at the can.
I say that only because if the Flyers are dead in the water, it'd be highly unlikely that he'd want to stay on another one year deal for a rebuild effort, if he doesn't decide to go play for KalPa with Sami Kapanen |

I saw a lot more out of Carter and Richards then I do out of Schenn and Couturier. Carter had 23 goals as a rookie and slumped due to injury and being on an aweful 2006 team. Richards had 11 goals while playing on the 4th line, being an incredible PKer and Very physical and recently led the Phantoms to the calder. The next year he also was injury rittled but was on pace for 20 some goals in his 2nd season on that 2006 team. There really is no compairson there. |

Well, again, I said if the Leafs continue their slide.
The Jets are a disaster. They might be willing to deal Byfuglien to save a GM's job. |

If the pens offered Maata for Timo, you'd have to take it. The real question would be, would you root for Kimmo to win a cup as a member of the Pens? |

I don't think Phaneuf gets dealt. They would want a lot for him and I'm not sure a team is giving up the house for a Phaneuf rental.
The problem with Byfuglien is that the jets view him as a much better player than the rest of the league. Either some team will need to pay more or the Jets will need to come down in asking price. |

So, in the left hand you have G, Read and Coots...In the right you have Toews, Sharp, Kane, Hossa, Versteeg, Shaw...
You pick, tell me which team is designed to score goals at any point of the game. - JW98FlyerFan
All you are saying is Chicago has much a better offensive team. No poop.
Scoring in actual hockey games and scoring in the skills competition are not the same thing. Steve Stamkos scores on 21.4% of his shootout attempts while Matt Read has scored on 41.7% of his. Which one is the better goal scorer? |

This isn't a knock on him in any shape or form, but I don't think he's one of those guys who would consider their career incomplete w/o a Cup... he's got multiple Olympic medals, multiple SM-Liiga/Mestis Championships, and Kalpa to hang his hat on. |

I dont think its the players so much as it it is the culture...signing guys like streit and vinny to long term deals is what scares me |
