cant believe this hasnt happened. take out coburn and the talent on the blue lines of the flyers and phantoms are probably a wash - Just5
If my knowledge of recent Flyers history has taught me anything, it's that if this team was contending right now, half of their blue line would have contracted the plague by now and the GM would be working the phones to overpay for a defenseman. |

Alt has, what, 30 games of pro hockey under his belt? If this season truly is a "throw away" (we're, what, like 5 points out of the playoffs with 50 or so games to go?), then let's not give him a trial by fire where he's set up to fail. Let him learn pro hockey in the AHL, and if things go sour by mid-February, then we should think about it. Same for Lauridsen; a year and a quart or so of pro hockey, and apparently he's been working on his defense game and getting very good at it down with the Phantoms. Let him continue to refine it, and give him a shot, again, if things go sour later on. Right now, they're both better served getting top-4 minutes in Adirondack and working on their game. Won't get the same opportunity in the NHL. - jmatchett383
Totally agree with this. Lauridsen played pretty well in his call up last year, but I don't think he looked ready for the NHL for reals. |

Haha this is so true
Wacky season, no D injuries, really solid goaltending and they are closer to a lottery pick in the draft then a playoff spot.

Trying to stay positive today.
The first line has looked good since Raffl, and I was very encouraged by Streit's goal last game. He timed the neutral zone play just right to create the turnover, then jumped up into offense mode and scored a huge goal to put the Flyers in the lead.
More of this kind of play please. |

Also Couturier scoring his signature goal again.
The fact that they scored so many good goals and then blew it in the last 10 minutes was terrible. |

His cap hit of around $7m will be hard to fit unless one of Grossmann or LSchenn is traded and replaced by a cheaper defenseman or Alt or Lauridsen. Note this lineup doesn't even include Downie who will surely get $3m+ per season.
FORWARDS
Scott Hartnell ($4.750m) / Claude Giroux ($8.275m) / Jakub Voracek ($4.250m)
Brayden Schenn ($2.750m) / Vincent Lecavalier ($4.500m) / Wayne Simmonds ($3.975m)
Michael Raffl ($1.000m) / Sean Couturier ($1.750m) / Matt Read ($3.625m)
Scott Laughton ($0.894m) / Adam Hall ($0.700m) / Zac Rinaldo ($0.750m)
DEFENSEMEN
Mark Streit ($5.250m) / Braydon Coburn ($4.500m)
Nicklas Grossmann ($3.500m) / Luke Schenn ($3.600m)
Erik Gustafsson ($1.000m) / Chris Pronger ($4.941m)
GOALTENDERS
Steve Mason ($3.500m)
Ray Emery ($1.500m)
SALARY CAP: $71,100,000; CAP PAYROLL: $65,010,595; BONUSES: $212,500

well, i think he'd be a $1million upgrade on the current Timmonen contract...so depending on what he's looking for, i'd be stoked.
AND, if we trade away Luke Schenn in my proposed trade, we would only have to worry about him getting along with Scotty Hartnell

If they trade Coburn or Grossmann that would indicate they are in full rebuild mode.
Like a 5+ year rebuild. Which seems highly unlikely given its Ed Snider and the Flyers.
Coburn and Grossmann are legit NHL defenseman with reasonable contracts.
Especially Coburn.
Those two would be hard to replace with the current market for D.
Mez will be gone next yr. Kimmo is likely gone as well. |
