Okay so how long does it take to get an MRI to change MS medication? I'm (frank)ed right now with Harding and Fasth, only one can be on the IR. Do I wait it out? |

Curious to see if after the x-mas break we bring in a Paul Maurice or someone with some experience to help out. - Lahey
Both Maurice and Laviolette are not NHL employed right now. Now Laviolette seems kinda similar to Eakins in terms of blustre but Maurice always struck me as an egghead who I'd be thrilled to have if he wanted to come on in a supporting role. |

I don't even know if it matter that they are similar or complete opposites, but just an established associate that has been around and dealt with diversity before. |

Downie 5mil is my guess. I didn't read the rest, because I usually agree with 95% of what you write. |

I'd love someone who could work with special teams to help diversify the attack. The 4-forward PP isn't inherently terrible, but the 2nd unit could be a different look altogether so that if we get the other team caught in a partial change, we can really confuse them while they're tired.
Here's Eakins' special teams coaching history by the way
Assistant for the Leafs (NHL, 06-09)
06-07: PK 78.5%, 27th; PP 17.7%, 16th
07-08: PK 78.1%, 29th; PP 17.8%, 15th
08-09: PK 74.7%, 30th; 18.8%, 16th
Head coach of the Marlies (AHL, 09-13)
09-10: PK 19th, PP 28th
10-11: PK 1st, PP 25th
11-12: PK 1st, PP 27th
12-13: PK 15th, PP 19th

Yeah frankly I doubt he makes it to FA - Philly quite pointedly re-acquired him and he's been great since he's been there - and he's got major Clarkson/Clowe potential.
I might be willing to pay that if we thought he was the missing piece on the Nuge-Ebs line. Although, if he'd work with them, Perron would probably (continue to) work with them too. |

He uses those fancy words and you get spellbound into believing he's smarter than you, and he can basically say whatever he wants, and you be like '0h yes, Morris, you are correct as usual'.
Having said that, I too agree with most of what he says, but looking at his audience, think he needs to dumb it down. |

I'm on the same page as MacT on them. I'll give any of these guys up depending on the return. I'm not shopping them but if someone comes knocking with a cant refuse offer they are gone. |

haha I'm not trying to be elitist or anything.
And there are definitely more knowledgeable posters than me about hockey. I friggin suck at hockey and never played it at a high level. I obviously like the sound of my own voice appearance of my own words (?) though |

Exactly. If you're looking to get better without giving up Hall/Ebs/Nuge, these are the kinda of guys you gotta be prepared to part with. |

Downie seems low and hard to get. I'd keep Hall/Nuge/Ebs together.
I think we are stuck with Gags. So I'd acquire a 2 way guy to go with him and Yak. Winnik would be better suited to 3rd line with Gordon.
I think a second pair of Ference/Jultz would be disaster. Its going to be extremely dissicult but I think we need 2 top 4 guys coming in.
Ference/Larsen as bottom pair.
Still lots of what if scenarios to play out.... |

Rishaug again with a valid point about how Cowen's, Schenn's etc. always get dealt. They may not be dealt numerous times a year, but every year there are good young players that are in the NHL that get dealt for whatever reason. It is time for MacT to be the one that surprises the rest of the NHL and make a deal for a guy that not many thought was available. If it means dealing a Nurse or Kelfbom then so be it.
Letting GM's know that you are pretty much open to anything can and will get you some interesting calls. |

I don't think Gagner is here to start next year. Not a good sign when Stauffer makes hints about it. |

I too think Gagner will be around for a while...I don't think it's going to be the disaster that some think it will be though. He's had a rough start to the season, but his stats are somewhat deceiving:
First 7GP: 0G 1A, -10 43.7% FO
Last 16GP: 4G , 7A, -6 45.7% FO
Yeah there are huge gaps based on who even makes it to FA. Obviously if a guy like Girardi does, we need to pursue him in addition to a trade acquisition |

Radio, talking about how we are going to need a Schenn and Gagner isn't the answer.
While it was just opinion, Stauffer doesn't usually talk badly about the oilers. As of late all the media are on the oilers and talking about what is needed. Something has to give. How do you add size to your top 9 without moving someone? Unless it's done in the off-season, but by the sounds of it everyone wants something done now.

Between his new contract and broken jaw Gagner is under performing.
The injury really sucks cause it really gives him a solid excuse for his poor play.
I don't particularly like Gagner or dislike him.
A couple years ago he had a decent defensive year and everyone complained he wasn't putting up enough points.
Since then he has been better on offense but obviously worse defensively.
I had hopped this is the year he finally put it all together and became more well rounded. This isn't the case. He has obviously taken an even further step back defensively and isn't producing that well either.
It takes a long time for a jaw to fully heal so we might not know what we have in Gagner till the end of the season if not even next year.
The bottom line is, Gagner as is, would be addition by subtraction. Gagner from last year really wasn't really acceptable either but almost impossible to upgrade on without giving up some thing good... High draft pick, great prospect, or one of our other top players.
So yeah...
Hope he starts playing better. We cant give this kid anymore chances. He has to put up or get him shipped out asap. |
