I still think they squeak into playoffs. The East sucks & unlike a lot of the teams behind them, the Flyers are actually playing below their ability. The only team south of the Flyers in the Metro that is really underachieving is the Rangers. - Jsaquella
I do to, just having some fun. |

I also think if they're still stumbling out of the roster freeze, we see something happen. |

Yeah...the Metro's just...bad. Toronto's been looking horrific and their metrics are just awful, as well...think there's maybe a couple of spots the Flyers could get. |

That would be interesting, since we all know that, in order, the three biggest chips we have right now that would get us something close to what we need are Laughton, the 2014 first, and the 2014 second.
Maybe someone else would trade Brayden Schenn. But it just feels like Homer's not going to do it, as long as he's the GM.

I have 4 names on my "untouchables" list, which should actually be the "Only way you get any of these guys is fi you pay through the nose"
They are Giroux, Voracek, Couturier & Brayden Schenn. I'm not scared to deal Simmonds or Read or Laughton in the right deal. Nor am I scared to deal Schenn for a good enough return. |

The Flyers are already in a spot. They just have to maintain. Efforts like tonight's have to be eliminated. |

I wouldn't move Giroux or Couturier, because they're the right ages for guys you can win with.
Damn it. This team.
I do think if they go all-in on this season -- they're more dangerous than people realize. I don't want them to sacrifice all of the future...but man, I wouldn't blink if they sacrificed a piece or two of it.
I just think they're really close to being able to punish some of these teams in the East.
Boston's a different animal, right now...but I just can't take Pittsburgh seriously with Fleury in net.
Maybe some others can, and maybe I should. But I just don't. |

They have to be smart about the players they add.
I'm in favor of a guy like Byfuglien, because he fills so many of the needs they have. He puts up points, he skates well, he's dynamite in transition, he can QB a power play. Despite his warts, which he definitely has, he'd be a good addition at the right price.
He's also young enough that he should be able to play at a relatively high level for another 3 or 4 years.
They could also try for a younger guy. David Rundblad is still very raw, but he's also highly skilled. He sits in Phoenix because they have depth. Here, he's a likely top 4 guy.
What I'm against would be something like trading a top level prospect(relative to what the Flyers have in their system) for a guy like Brian Campbell.
Sure, he'd help, but they can't justify trading a guy like Laughton for him

I hope so. the D needs a makeover. I can't stand any of them including schenn.
I did think Gill played well tonight though. |

They are pretenders until they get some serious D help. As long as Cooter stays consistent with his game right now, I'm comfortable making Lecavalier available at the deadline. Who knows maybe Winnipeg would swap us Buff for Lecavalier +
When the Flyers start contending Lecavalier will be well past his prime.

What if Toronto were to offer say Gardiner for Lecavalier and Gus. I'm doing that in a heartbeat |

Lecavalier's got a NMC, and is unlikely to waive it for Winnipeg.
But there are deals out there, and they don't need to remake 6 spots, they really just need a couple guys with better mobility and puck skills.
Outside of hockey smarts, the biggest issue is redundancy in the lineup. too many grind it out types, too many stay at home defensemen. They need a better mix, not necessarily a complete tear down. |

I really just want a 'proven' top pairing dman at this point - especially one that can keep the puck in the offensive zone on the PP. Yandle, Phaneuf, Subban, Buff, etc. Anything less I say stay the course. I might budge for a sniper if one becomes available. |

I'm happy with an improvement.
There's guys like Gardiner & Rundblad, who has skill and are still a bit raw, there's others like Brandon Gormley who could definitely develop into top pair guys, who are stuck behind guys like Yandle.
They also cost a bit less.

I agree. I think the young forwards are fine. You can get exponentially better offensively if you can get better puck movers on the D end. This team with a guy like Ryan Suter.....whole different ball game. I know it aint easy |

It'll end up costing some of the young forward depth.
The issue is, you have some quality in the pipeline, but how much of Giroux's prime can they afford to spend until that quality is playing at a high NHL level?
Kids like Rundbald or Gardiner could step in and help, but aren't true top pairing guys. But they're more promising in the offensive aspects of the game than anyone in the system. |

The thing with Giroux. I think he can sustain this level for a long time. You think about his type of game. He doesnt rely on speed or brute strength or anything like that type of skillset that peaks at 25-28. He might actually be better at 30. He is only going to be smarter, more mature. I think we will see this level of game from him for another 5 years at very minimal. |

Yeah...no Grossmann hurts. They..let's be honest: Columbus really wanted this thing. No Downie, Jackets at home, a good defenseman returns for them, Gaborik gets a point before he leaves...it was going to be tricky to get a point out of there tonight, as it was.
Sometimes, you just gotta lick your wounds and regroup for the next one. - AllInForFlyers
Disagree 100%. If you can't beat the jackets with the lineup we had tonight, it's not good.
Jackets outworked us almost 100 minutes out of the 120 minutes played. |

He probably can sustain it for a long time, but I'd rather not waste part of his prime as a non-playoff team, when there's a ton of forward depth that can be replaced via free agency, that can be used as trade bait.
Not saying to clean house, but I'd be willing to move assets up front to strengthen the defense. |
