You would rather for the current terms have Vinny over Filpulla?
Huh? - puckhead17
Lacavlier is a better fit for what they have on the roster. He's more willing to shoot and despite the lack of foot speed, he's got size and very good hands. Filpulla is still more a playmaker than shooter, although he's an outstanding player. |

Of Course. Before this season he had one season at 60 points and ususally maxed out around 40. Last year he had an astonishing 17 points. Although I would like him on the team given how he is playing now I would rather have Vinny. I actually dont think Fillpula will be able to keep up this production and I think its partially due from his teammates. I really like Vinny because he is a shooter. I think that is something the team really needs.
In retrospect Fillpula's contract shouldnt be put with Clowe. But my point was if he is overpaid |

By 15-16, top players will have cap hits of 9-12 million and good solid players (2nd line forwards, 2nd pair dmen) will have cap hits of 5-7 million. At that point VL's contract won't look bad at all.
Hartnell's still will though! - BiggE

Not disputing the "better fit" vs the other.
He's not a healthy player, and can't see that getting better next year, they should have concerned theirselves with the back line more
Again, Mason will maybe get Price $ & everyone will be female doging he's not making 40 stops a night, because we are bad in our own zone
Edit, just tired of our GM falling in love with players well past their primes. |

There wasn't much out there in UFA last summer to solve the issues on defense.
Had there been a guy who did solve the issue on defense out there, and had they passed on him, yeah, I'd be pissed. But there wasn't. It's not as if they passed up signing Jay Bouwmeester or Alexander Edler to sign Lecavalier. |

Again we signed him as a reasonably healthy player. He played 39 games last season and before that 64 and 65 but not serious injuries.
I dont think Mason gets Price money no matter what his agent says. He probably will get 4.5 at most. But thats besides the point.
If you want to female dog about our GM falling in love with players past their primes dont look to Vinny, look to Streit or the possible Cleary deal. Ill female dog with you about those |

That whole team is a mess. They run around like chickens with their heads lopped off and seem to have no faith in the coach and no confidence in themselves. |

And now the forwards - BiggE
C-Claude Giroux: B (Think he's been an A-player all season, just was saddled with linemates who weren't getting the job done. If even half the posts he rang went in, he'd be at a PPG this season already).
W-Jake Voracek: B (agreed)
W-Michael Raffl: A- (B+, but yeah, he's looking like a steal now)
C-Vinnie Lacalvier: A- (agreed)
C/W-Brayden Schenn: C+ (agreed)
W-Scott Hartnell: D- (agreed; Hartnell has to reinvent his game as he's aging. Either he embraces that and becomes like Dave Andreychuk and Joe Nieuwendyk did as they got older and stays in the game, or he goes out in a flash, like Tony Amonte and John LeClair)
W-Wayne Simmonds: B (agreed)
C-Sean Couturier: A (agreed; give the guy some wingers who can score, and ta da!)
W-Matt Read: A- (agreed)
W-Steve Downie: A- (agreed)
C-Adam Hall: B+ (agreed)
W-Zac Rinaldo: C- (agreed; you can play him, or Rosehill. Never a need to play both)
W-Jay Rosehill: C (agreed; it's not that I can't stand him. But he shouldn't be playing anywhere close to every game, and never with Rinaldo in the lineup)

I was very much in favor of Cleary, but having seen him play...he's lost about 5 steps, not just 1 or 2.
However adding Downie filled that need. |

And being in the West they have pretty much no shot at making the playoffs either which I'm sure isn't helping things any with the fanbase |

Given how he is playing in Detroit right now certainly. He isnt even on their 3rd line, I believe he has been dropped to their 4th. Ive heard Detroit fans moaning about how slow he is. Dodged a bullet there Homlgren.
And btw, given you dont like the team to be a retirement home, count yourself lucky we dont have Ken Holland as a Gm. |

In 2 years we will be hoping he joins Pronger on LTIR - puckhead17
That's only if he chooses not to adjust his game -- there's plenty of older players in the league who play, and play well, into their late 30s.
It all boils down to their desire to play, their desire to change. Joe Nieuwendyk became a very, very good checking center at the end of his career and won another Stanley Cup because of it.
Mats Sundin decided he'd rather not play anymore.
There's no reason to be down on Lecavalier now, or project what he will be. Because for every older player who goes, there's another older player who adjusts their game and does just fine.

Exactly -- every single player in the league is different. There's no way to judge a player's career track based on simplistic phrases, or even how they played for one team as opposed to another.
Larry Murphy was a pariah in Toronto. He was a linchpin for two Cup winners in Detroit.
And he was exactly the same player.
Nathan Horton's the same guy he was in Florida. He wasn't a loser. He didn't become a better player in Boston, or a winner.
He just joined a better team.

Of course. I'd be beating the bushes to get a good, mobile puck moving defenseman.
They have assets, but it's about finding a partner. Perhaps Cheveldayoff feels heat in Winnipeg or Tallon in Florida |
