Few Thoughts:
-I would NOT trade this upcoming 1st rounder unless it was for a guy like Subban, or close. Byfuglien isn't that, because of the combination of question marks(age, health/durability/conditioning & ability to remain elite).
-I'd be willing to move the Schenn brothers & Simmonds in a deal for Byfuglien, as long as something came back with him. Bryan Little, Michael Frolik, Paul Postma...some kind of roster guy/prospect package.
-I'd avoid Gaborik like the plague. All the talent in the world, made out of glass. It's not a question of if he gets hurt, but when.
-If Nick Grossmann is an untouchable for you, then I can't disagree more. Third pair defensemen are a dime a dozen. |

Im actually not joking. If he regressed then maybe we can get him a little cheaper and hope he regains his form. - FrmRusiaWifGlov

It worked out well in the cases of Mark Howe, Eric Desjardins and Kimmo Timonen (which was more cap than regression) |

I'm not against it. Its just sad how often we turn to that rather then developing our own players. |

If Montreal would move Subban for the Schenns and a first, I'd drive them both to the airport and spring for French lessons for em as well! |

All joking aside I couldnt possibly see Subban getting moved for anything short of Giroux, or Coots and two 1st's. |

Like that deal, but I'd rather expend assets to get a legit mobile, puck moving dman. - BiggE
To you and Puckhead.
The problem with trading assets for puck moving dmen right now is, you're going to pay through the teeth to get them. I don't want to give up all of our forward depth to get 1-2 dmen.
We're in a bad spot. Trading for dmen may not be possible right now. |

All solid points. On the last Grossmann point, for me personally I dont see him as untouchable but hes a piece I would rather keep around if possible. Sure I would move him for the right deal but Im not actively shopping him either.

It's possible, but it will be expensive. The choice is to wait and hope that Gostisbehere, Morin, Hagg & Alt will be ready to step in and play heavy minutes soon.
If they trade some forward depth for defense help, they can more easily replace the traded forwards in free agency. |

he looked like leighton out there. he was that bad. - moylander
It's crazy to me that we took an AHL'er at best, and went to the cup finals with him.
Has he even played an NHL game since we dumped him? Some here were arguing that Leighton is a legit NHL goalie at the time weren't they?

I think a Byfuglien or Edler can be acquired without moving Jake or Couturier - BiggE
i like edler. i still think buff really doesnt help you guys a lot for some reason. i dont know. im not saying it wouldnt be an improvement in some ways, but you guys getting buff doesnt scare me in the same way as say you guys acquiring a slick skating type |

Im at the point where I think we should suck it up and pay through our teeth in the offseason. Find the cheapest and right deal and pull the trigger. We need a puck moving defenseman and im okay with deal most forwards to get one. This organization never has a problem finding more. |

I see him as a limited, second pair at best, stay at home defenseman with contract that's too big for what he brings to the table. I prefer him to Luke Schenn, FWIW, but he's far from vital or irreplaceable. |

I like Edler but I like Yandle more. Unfortunately I think his price will be the highest. Another option is Enstrom |

Byfuglien is a pretty good transitional defnseman, despite the bulk. |

yeah. to get anyone worthwhile, youre going to create a pretty big hole somewhere else in your lineup for sure. more and more, it seems internal development is the only way to really go anymore |

Theres nothing really in there that I disagree with. I would say that I think a player of his skill set is vital to the team. But overall all fair points. |
